Anyone tried this yet? (Rexlar brath build)

By FlyingAnchors, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I've been thinking of dusting off imperials for a change, and hands down my favorite ship is the TIE defender. It's highest Ps pilot though... has a lack luster ability, to say the least. But with intensity out now, which allows for almost every round or more likely in this case every other round a focus token, does rexlar finally have a semi consistent ability?

TIE Defender (37), Intensity (2), TIE/x7 (-2), Engine Upgrade (4)

Idea is 4K, gain evade, barrel roll or boost, gain focus, and already have a TL to use for re-rolls on atk so you can spend the focus for his ability.

I've been thinking of pairing him with a Tie shuttle or maybe Colonel Jendon to pass TL's or focus tokens to, and use OL for the other ace of the list. Thoughts?

(not looking to take this competitively anywhere, just see if I can finally make decent use of Rexlar's ability)

With Defenders, I think with Intensity you have to pretend it's not a source of tokens, but an occasional source of barrel rolls and boosts.

For Brath, getting the extra reposition is nice at PS8, but you'll need actions from earlier turns or other ships to get mods if you want to spend his focus on his ability. If you really want to use his ability, you probably should try to get dice mods from his Elite upgrade, one of the best cards is for that Expertise. I don't really love Jendon, he seems slow and pricy for what you get. I'd rather take a TIE shuttle, or a Quickdraw with FCS and Targeting Synchronizer.

During store champs, I flew against an Expertise/Tractor/TIE-D Brath, paired with a VI Pure Sabacc and a Cool Hand/Fleet Officer/Systems Officer/TIE Mk. II Tomax Bren. The tractor beam was a major threat to my Miranda Doni, and I played poorly around it, eating 4 crits from Brath. My opponent would target lock on Brath, Systems a target lock onto Sabacc, then Fleet officer a focus onto both of them. I hadn't flown well with my Outrider, and my first three HLC attacks couldn't manage more than 2 hits 2 blanks (and that's with Lone Wolf and Focus), but my opponent did go on to I think 3-1 and just barely miss the cut.

I just made this list for my buddy to try out against my Rebels:

Rexler Brath (38)
TIE Defender (37), Swarm Leader (3), TIE/x7 (-2)

"Deathfire" (31)
TIE Bomber (17), Advanced Proton Torpedoes (6), Proton Torpedoes (4), Cluster Mines (4), Long Range Scanners (0)

Epsilon Squadron Pilot (15) x 2

Not too sure how well it will work, but you'll potentially have a ton of red dice for a couple of turns.

I've actually had a lot of luck running a decimator and quickdraw or rexlar set up. Between the two, I've been 13-0 at my local store. The decimator just grinds up enemy ships and your other ship works well as an annoying flanker or blocker for super high PS pilots. For Rex, I'd try to do a lot of 3 turns or banks to get beside them and 4k's to chase afterwards, focus as your action if they have 1 or no shields and light em up or TL if they have 2+ or nothing is in arc. The PS 10 RAC with palp getting 2 or 3 crits most attacks either strips a lot of tokens or you can cripple them outright. Rex is getting a lot of usually unmodified attacks, but he has been a real closer for me. The decimator mods are to preference. In the beginning I bumped often to break up formations and still get kylo poking eyes. Now, the players that have flown against it just fly away and I end up chasing them.
