Palpatine vs Kylo Ren & Captain Phasma is not pretty

By MiniatureReview, in Star Wars: Destiny

Played Palpatine vs the new Kylo Ren & Captain Phasma and it was a blowout. Palpatine got crushed in 3 games easily.

I think the longest game was 4 turns. Kylo special against mono decks is almost guaranteed 4-8 damage a game, but it is usually the high end. Add to that Kylo and Phasma's ability to do dice control and Palpatine gets the beat down pretty easily. Even when Palpatine had good cards starting out, he still was easily defeated.

Not sure how he can easily defend against Kylo's special other than shielding up.

I played my ePalp against the Rey/Poe pack, and got creamed twice. The first game was a blowout, the second game I got close to killing Poe, and Rey wasn't too healthy, but I really didn't get any solid upgrades, so I was having trouble dealing any damage at all. It was all of the shields that were all over the place that was so frustrating for me.

eKylo/ePhasma (2 player set) are vicious! You could easily build competitive decks with them.

Both of the 2 player decks are quite competitive if you get 2 sets and winnow the decks down to the 15 best.

Whelp, so much for my Palp deck.......

I think Palp has been pretty much dead for a while now. It's not just that the 15 health is kinda low, it's that he gets absolutely destroyed by dice control. It's too bad, because I just finally traded for my second Palp! I pulled one at prerelease, and didn't see another one in five boxes of boosters... I was really happy when I traded IG-88 and two Jetpacks for a Palp (and some other stuff), but then I realized that he's just about as valuable as Iggy anyway. Oh well! At least nobody can say Destiny's meta is stale!

Dang. I totally sat on my Palp expecting his price to rise as more sets became available and he became rarer.

Not sure I made the right call.

Vader also has a hard time against Kylo Ren & Captain Phasma. His only saving grace is if you team him up with a yellow or red character. That helps negate some of Kylo's activation ability because the kylo player has a better chance of guessing the wrong color card.

hmmmm I find this so entertaining and satisfying ...... Palpy losing to e2Player Decks :P

Individual card prices will continue to go down across the board as more and more packs are opened up since FFG seems to keep making more product. Once things are truly out of print for a while then prices will go up, until rotation, then fall again.

Do we know how rotation is going to work for sure yet?

FFG has not even mentioned that cards will go "out of rotation". As far as we know now, all cards will be legal until the end of time. Any other answer you get to this is speculation. IF FFG decides that cards will cease to be playable in tournaments, it won't be for a long time. Netrunner ran for 5 years I think before cards were removed from the game.

Ok that gives me hope that his price will go up once he's out of print and (hopefully) still interesting a character enough to be desirable.

Even if he is not competitively playable he will still be collectable to a completist.

FFG did state there will be a rotation. They gave no details on that rotation though.

Do you have a source/link for that, @Mep ? Not challenging you, I'd just be interested in seeing it.

Palpy will arise again once we have anti dice control cards.

If I recall correctly, rotation was mentioned during the FFG address at that toy fair in Vegas. I may be wrong, but it was around then when they explained the Awakenings shortages.

I would love to see some anti dice control. It could come as a support or an upgrade.

Yo guys, a first turn Abandon All Hope is your anti-mitigation. Palp thrives when neither side has resources. Plus, As I Have Forseen allows you to check their hand. He'll be just fine, just the cards that are useful for him will be different.

To my knowledge, FFG has only discussed the print rotation and has not officially discussed (or declared) if/when cards would no longer be event legal.

Handy no, and I've seen the info before and have no need to go looking for something I already know. You could start your search in the FFG's own news articles. I believe they made that statement along since the core set announcement and them reprinting awakenings. Really all they said is there will be a rotation and gave no further info. So we have no idea what that means and I am not sure they do either.

This. The only reason Palpatine was ever even a little bit viable was because the speed meta was suppressing dice control.

I'm a new player to Destiny. I picked up two of the new starter sets to give the game a try. I've been looking online for decks made from just the two player sets but haven't found much info regarding this. It's good news to me that you can make decent decks for both sides with what I have. That being said, any advice or suggestions regarding constructing decks from the two starters would be appreciated and welcomed.

When building two decks I'd advise to keep the control style cards and remove the really expensive stuff. Those big Supports look nice, but in a more competitive scene they'll either never hit the table, or their dice will be so slow any good result may be removed.

If you pick up packs or singles, I would suggest replacing Flank and Suppression with better control cards from blue or red factions. There's a lot of commons and uncommons that do similar things more effectively.
