By Kakita Shiro, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

I remember reading on the Discord channel that someone was developing a "Ringteki" website. Is there any word from the developer? What about Untap.in?

I know about OCTGN, but I usually use a Mac at home so a non-OCTGN solution is important to me.

Tabletop Simulator runs L5R okay as well.

Ringteki (Project name) located at I think: jigoku.online is being developed and they are working towards a beta release in a few weeks. If TTS works for Mac, that can work, but isn't free.

Tabletop Simulator is... really fun. It's not automated, but if you trust the person you're playing with, I'm loving the experience.

I'm not a fan of TTS but it works ^_^ There are a lot of games you can get for it too, not just card games but other board games.

Yeah, I know Star Wars: Destiny at least is also on there.

I'm just waiting on Ringteki though.

OCTGN works and is free. TTS costs $20 and I'm a cheapskate, especially with Ringteki around the corner. After all, I'm not about to pay money for a program I'll only use for one game.

octgn works and its better than tts. with more utomatation it will be very good. Props to the developer. it just needs a button which automates passings and advances phases in which players are (like a small window on the side so players can see in which phase they are) and a skill counter (also automated)

i must say i dont see the appeal of constant dragging of tokens all over the place

That's not exactly the appeal of TTS. That's what you put up with in order to be able to play board and card games with friends all over the world. There are much better platforms to play specific games, but TTS can play any game.

OCTGN isn't on Macs and as such will never have mass appeal.

TTS is a great stand-in. I think for dedicated online L5R players, eventually Ringteki will suffice as well.

TTS is like playing the actual card game, but with gloves on. There are weird quirks to get it to work, and somethings are easier and somethings are harder, however it got rolling first, by a wide margin, and is currently what the people on the Discord Server primarily support, at least until we we Ringteki. Also, if you wait for it to go on sale, its $10, but really anything not free is barrier.

To be fair, I have heard similar complaints about OCTGN, that it too has some clunky quirks being based on a generic system, but in different ways.

I don't think the OCTGN vs TTS debate will be one that can be finished/won.

It will when Ringteki comes and bashes both their skulls together. =)

That is like Red Delicious vs Granny Smith apples. One of them is terrible and one of them is delicious. (Hint, it is not the one with delicious in the name).
