Dauntless Pathfinders

I'd say they are a hard counter to Latari elves in regards to pinning them down. Those elves are very hard to keep pinned down and scouting out of terrain from behind will go a long way towards achieving this.

Yea the Outland Scouts are by far the most mobile Daqan unit in their arsenal. (Unless maybe Kari brings over some Latari)

Oathsworn have no shift and reform at int 8

Rune Golems are better but have no banking movements and rune dependent on the early imitative movement. White reform helps.

Spearmen are average as are the Crossbowmen.

Then we got these scouts with some good shift action and okay march actions and a white reform modifier.

i dont see them actually catching the elves very easily but the double-shift or the terrain deploy/free blue move will help to cut off an escape route. Which leads to somebody catching them but probably not the scouts unless the elves just dive right into them (since theyre as easy as spearmen to kill but lack any shenanigans spearmen can get to beef up)

I'm curious if that late deploy upgrade HAS to be on turn2. If it does, that could be pretty easy to deny and shaft you pretty badly. If it doesnt, thats insanely strong because you could keep them till turn 3-4 where usually players tend to forget about the possibility of things popping up behind them, and then explode with a violent geomancer (or whatever he was called) lol

I'm starting to think this was a missed opportunity at giving Scouts a 1 tray unit option.

Scouts and skirmish units in WFB always operated in loose squads (like what you see in 40k), while the rest of the units in the game were rank-and-file blocks. This made Scouts unique in design and function because they were more mobile than big blocky units. Here in RW, I doubt we'll ever see single models not on trays (because of the movement templates), so they only comparable idea would be a 1 tray option. I think it would have been great to see that with Scouts here.

The more I think about it, the less I want to face a Scouting, 3 threat block of these guys hitting my flank with Kari and MoI rolling BBBRW.

No, sir. I don't like it.

Or using Hawthorne a 4 threat 4x1...

Until we get a third hero i'd expect pretty much any daqan unit to potentially be 4x1. Hawthorne is awesome for that and our other hero doesnt do jack diddly squat for army setup (considering the rule on cross-faction units is no faction upgrades period i do not want any latari archers in my daqan army now)

Or put the dawnblade on them with an artifact bearer making surges equal to the threat of the unit. :D

Unfortunately no Wraithstalker then ><

At this point the best use case for Kari's army bonus is someone who mains Latari Elves but also has a core set and wants to try Daqan.

As for these Scouts, I'm definitely in for 2 boxes just to run with Kari. It's even supported in lore! According to the article, "e ven Kari Wraithstalker is rumored to have come from among their ranks."

Dont get me wrong i use Kari in most of my lists lately, but shes an upgrade not a standalone hero.
That ability slapped in a 3x3 of spearmen is sick, plus the blue die is useful.

Standalone hero offers very, very little the champion upgrade doesnt for 16?pts more and can be picked off easier. Plinking Kari out of a spearmen blob isnt easy, specifically targeting her on her own is though.

Standalone Kari with Fortuna's is a great sniper. Add 2 trays of Derpwoods with Fire Rune and you can throw out a lot damage from a distance.

Is it worth the points though?

It's probably not competitive. But again, if you have a bunch of elves already and a core set, it's an easy way to build a Daqan army.

I've played against it and it's pretty dang effective... but is it better than just adding more Oathsworn? That's a tougher question, but it's not really Kari's fault the way the meta is balanced right now

Its hard to make any meta calls until we get the proper game balance going. That being all 4 factions with more than 3 options available to them.
Whats ridiculous now may be terrible purely because of unannounced Elf stuff or even currently announced Uthuk.

Yep, I agree completely.

That's why I'm not concerned about the future of the game at this point. The full Runewars experience isn't even available yet!

Hey I think a 4x1 of deepwood archers with tempered steel would be quite devastating to most units.

Run 2 of them. One with Kari and one with dawnblade.

There goes 100% of your army.

It is only 128 points. Assuming you put MoI on both.

i'd be more worried about there goes your pocket book than points.

i'd rather not do what i did with 40k like an idiot: ALL THE THINGS!! (so many orks...)

Well i only plan on getting 3 boxes right now.

But you want the Kari to fuel the dawnblade with that extra blue die :P

I'm only going to grab 2 boxes, unless I find their upgrades to be necessary for more units.

BB isn't too bad with the built in 2 surge for one damage. Pumps out a consistent 2 damage with the surge modifier.

Thats pretty much the only reason im not saying their damage output is crap.
2B generally has low damage but high surge. The innate 2surge -> 1damage (rather than lethal, so its threat multiplied still) offsets it and makes it pretty much the same as 1B1R while allowing more surge options.
Which is why i said putting kari in there would be mean lol

I rather enjoyed the recent discussion about the future of the game. is there anyone who remains concerned?

I'm not. Product is there, interest is there. I see this being a win for FFG and not something they're gonna suddenly bail on. I think even with the doom and gloom Legion, FFG is putting enough stuff out to keep Runewars players happy during what will likely be a bit of Legion drought early next year.

My only concern is not having enough money for all this! :D I was originally going to focus on just Uthuk Y'llan, but with the closest events happening 2.5 hours away (on a weeknight, no less), I'll probably have to support at least two factions for my own home games.
