With the renewed focus seeing on Star Wars Rebels characters, how many folks watch and or like this show? I have heard varying reports, from 'too childish/a kid's show' to it is great. With all of the cord cutting, how many people still have even the opportunity to see the Disney channel? I have a very basic HD line up that meets most of my needs along with HBO go and Netflix, but not, much opportunity to watch it period. Not that it matters too much because the heroes are made up anyways, but honestly I would like to see more 'legends' fan favorites personally...
Star Wars Rebels... How many actually watch this?
Is it amazing? No, not for me. Is it entertaining enough for me to keep watching every week because I love star wars and I find it entertaining? Yes it is.
I actually really like it, much more so than the Clone Wars. It has some rough patches, but there are actually some pretty incredible moments in it, too.
I think, given the current state of canon, we may have some difficulty bringing in Legends characters- or, at least Legends uniques. I think that stuff like the HK droids shows that we could definitely get Legends generics, at least.
I love it. The first season is a little childish, but nowhere near as bad as seasons 1 and 2 of clone wars. But once you hit season 2, it starts ramping up and then gets insane. I think it is fantastic and cannot recommend it enough.
But that's just me. Everyone's taste varies. As a point of reference. I also love the new canon and try to stay 100% caught up with it. I love legends too, though. I didn't get to read a lot of them when I was younger and now that I have some free time, I'm working my way through all the legends books. (Currently working on Visions of the Future) I'm also fairly young (27) so that probably colors my opinions towards it. I grew up with the prequels and while they are terrible, I have a soft spot for them.
They do bring in a reasonable amount of legends stuff. I'm sure you have heard that Thrawn eventually becomes the main villain and they do a terrific job with him.
I personally don't watch it. I love star wars games though and I've found that 'Rebels' characters have been fun and thematic so far, so I'm fine that FFG uses them as source material. I'm kind of a 'movies only' guy though because I rarely take the time to sit down and actually watch a show. TV is more a background thing for me, so I probably won't ever actually get around to watching the show. That, and I could really pass on that animation style but that's just me.

Same! It seems like a lot of people on Reddit hate on Rebels and treat CW as perfect. It drives me crazy. I mean, CW is great, but everyone seems to ignore that the first 2 seasons were terrible and ignore all the great moments Rebels had. I am so hyped for Season 4.

It grows on you. I'm not much of a TV watcher, but I'm all about Rebels, lol. Then again, I'm also the kind of SW nerd that latches onto any fiction he can get. Book, Comic, Cartoon, Game, Etc.,
To get this out of the way right off the bat - REBELS is a net positive for me.
It is a kids' show, and one with Disney behind it at that, but I think calling it childish is either hyperbole or dishonesty, because it HAS some dark elements and some well-done arcs. That being said, some episodes do taste like filler. The core of REBELS is the Lothal-cell, and I like all of the main characters. I also like how they brought over some characters from The Clone Wars, like Rex, Ahsoka, Hondo or Maul. I still feel like they wasted some potential with those characters. I am a bit disappointed that we never got to see Ahsoka and Rex on a mission for the Rebellion together. The season 2 finale was a bit overdone, but the confrontation and exchange between Ahsoka and Vader/Anakin was spot on and perfectly done - short, sharp and to the point. I also was sure they'd do a little bit more with Maul and Ezra in season 3, but the episode Twin Suns was great, too.
Now that I look at it, the show has a little bit for almost every taste - some light-hearted adventure, some character-driven drama, some dark moments. Or to quote two Stormtroopers: It's not regulation, but I kinda like it.

I find it's a hit and miss show.
There is some GREAT moments (Ahsoka/Vader) and some very BAD (sabercopter). But those great moments overshadows the bad enough for me to continue watching. If you're a fan of Star wars, it's worth your time. If not, you can skip it.
I found the Clone Wars much better though.
I'm 30. I gave it a few different chances. I've probably watched 20 episodes. It just can't keep me coming back.
Edited by caseycheesecakeI really do enjoy Starwars Rebels but mainly its because of the fan factor, those moments when you see a call back or a reference and you feel fulfilled. It has gone from strength to strength each season from very child like to a younger teenager dealing with some of the more darker issues.
I still love the characters each and every main one feels fleshed out, I hope to see the rest of the ghost squad and a few select characters make their way to Imperial Assault.

Me too, and I'm confident we will.

I think this is a really good assessment. I tend to be a little fanboyish, but it does have a lot of filler (granted, less each season, but it is still there) and some childish elements. Honestly, I like that it sticks with that cell because it lets you get more invested in them. As much as I loved clone wars, I was never as invested in its characters as I am in rebel's characters (except perhaps Ashoka and Maul. They were the best parts of the clone wars, imo, but they are in rebels too). Meanwhile, I care about the members of phoenix squadron almost as much as I do Luke, Han, and Leia. It's a lot more intimate show, but I feel like that is where Star Wars shines. It is about family. Specifically, the family you make, rather than the family you are born into.

Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.
I dont watch it, but i do rent the discs and watch it with my kids.
Better than clone wars, but almost everything could fit into that catagory.

A matter of taste. For me it's the opposite. I'm not really invested in the Rebels characters (except for Kanan and Hera, read the comic book series about Kanan past and I just ordered the book New Dawn) but Clone Wars made me discover, or rediscover, some great characters.
-It made me like Anakin, which is an incredible feats after watching the prequels. Enough so that it is now one of my favorite character. Clone Wars really built it as the war hero and great warrior he was supposed to be. And it actually makes us believe that he'll turn to the dark side.
-It also build up General Grievous from more than just an antagonist in Episode 3.
-Clone Wars is in a way the story of Ahsoka Tono. It's nice to see all her story in the Jedi order, from her introduction as Anakin padawan to the moment she decides to quit the order. It's nice to see the maturity she gets over time and it makes us believe how powerful she gets in Rebels.
-The story of Asajj Ventress... I cared enough for the character that I read Dark Disciple. Book that I recommend to every fan of Clone Wars and Asajj.
-Captain Rex, and all the clone troopers for that matter. The episodes that centered around the Clone Troopers were from my point of view, some of the best episodes of the showed. It actually made me care about them, instead of just seeing them as clones of Jango Fett.
-And Cad Bane... it's just too bad that we never got to see the episode where Cad Bane and Boba duel. Probably the moment Boba became the most feared bounty hunter of the galaxy.
-And the Jedi Order... all those jedi that becomes more than just figurants. It actually made me sad seeing some of them die in Episode 3 after watching Clone Wars, while I didn't care before.
Yeah... I miss Clone wars... except for the droid episodes... urgh....

How far into Clone Wars did you get? I quit watching it not long after it aired and did not get back into it until after episode 7 came out. The 1st 2 seasons are garbage, but season 3 is pretty good. Seasons 4+ are fantastic.

Spot on with Ahsoka. She is pretty annoying at first though (seriously, seasons 1 and 2 of clone wars are just painful) but she turns into one of the best characters and one of the main reasons to watch the show.
I forgot about Asajj. Dark Disciple is one of my favorite books. I absolutely love her.
As far as the clone troopers went, they were often the best episodes, but I never felt connected to any of the troopers. That's just me though. Same with Cad Bane. He is one of the coolest, most badass characters in SW history, but I don't really care about him as a character. I also never got connected to any of the other jedi as much as I have the main cast of Rebels.
I actually want to do a second watch of Clone Wars in the hopes that I can get more connected to these characters. Especially the clones. I admit, I had a very hard time keeping track of who was who and that may have been part of why I didn't connect with them as much.
But, yeah, I miss clone wars too except the droid episodes, the jar jar episodes, and most of the first two seasons.
Also, New Dawn is fantastic, especially if you were already invested in those two characters. The comics are great too (I wish it had went on longer. Especially considering the ending.) I love those two characters. I admit, I don't care as much about Zeb, Chopper, or even Ezra (though I love them all). Hera, Kanan, and Sabine are the best characters. Especially Sabine. (I'm a bit of a Sabine fanboy)
I love it. I prefer TCW (mostly) but it's still great Star Wars.
You're missing out on some great star wars if you ignore the TV shows I think.

I'm still hoping that the deleted scene is confirmed not canon and we see it in the Han Solo movie. Something has to save that film.
I love the original Clone Wars Carton, that was shown before Episode 3 came out.
I've seen the pilot and about half of the first season of the Cone Wars animated series. I really didn't feel any need to watch more of it. I hate Anakin's Padawan. I hate the whole idea of Anakin even having any Padawan.
I really like Rebels. It has much of the original designs for Star Wars Episode IV. Zeb is very similar to the first concept for Chewbacca. Kanan is close the first concept of the original hero of Star Wars. Gunslinging and swordwielding, a knight and a Robin Hood style pirate. Even Lothal has a strong resemblance of some of the very first concept scetches.

I got about as far as you did and gave up. I came back and decided to give it another shot after episode 7 came out.
The first 2 seasons of clone wars are garbage. Past that, it is awesome. Especially seasons 4 and on. I hated everything about the idea of Anakin having a padawan too, but by the end of the series, you will feel differently. Ashoka is a great character post-season 2.
I suggest giving it another shot. If you can't stomach the idea of sitting through the first two seasons, just skip them and jump into season 3. You might be a little lost, but I don't think it will cause too much of an issue.
Anakin having a padawan feels wrong at first, but given events in both Rebels and Clone Wars, it does end up paying off really well, and feeling like it fits right at home in canon.
As long as you keep in mind this show is produced to be played on Disney XD and is for kids, it can be enjoyed rather well. If you are expecting a Game of Thrones type experience, well lets just say no one is actually related to each other.

Wait what? If I didn't hate Anakin after the PT then clone wars would have absolutely done it. He was sporadically competent but that was outweighed by a) the way he treats Padme and b) the number of times his arrogance or recklessness gets other people killed.
With regards to Rebels: I find it pretty hit and miss (as I did with clone wars) but I'm certainly fond of it and it's pretty consistently gotten better as its gone on.
I think Rebels is more good than not. It started to show its potential around the middle of the first season- only potential, mind you.
Season 2 opened very strong, and at its worst just seemed like filler. Oh, and it gave us the stupidity of helicopter light sabers.
I wouldn't call it a masterpiece by any stretch, but it's worth a watch. And the third season episode "Twin Suns" was very much worth it!
I've watched most of it. I really hated it the first season. I saw a few episodes that sort of intrigued me so I started watching the second season and it did get better. The animation in the first season was WAY below TCW, but either they've gotten better or their budget has gotten bigger, it's still very plastic looking. I don't mind the stylized art, but a lot of times, early on, they looked like toys. I like Hera, but the rest of the Ghost crew is hit and miss. Kanan is alright, but I'm just tired of more Jedi being added. The Jedi were purged but there are more of them than any dark force users. Ezra was insufferable, but he's had some decent arcs since the first season. I cannot stand Zeb and Sabine. Sabine most of all. Chopper isn't too much further back, and hasn't helped to endear the show fully to me. The villains have honestly been the best part. Thrawn has been better than expected, and Vader has been pretty good; though I loathed those inquisitors with their heli-sabers. There have been some real gems of episodes, I have to admit, and they seem to be getting better as time goes on. I wasn't keen on Darth Maul coming back in TCW, and I really wasn't happy to see him return in Rebels, but the payoff, the duel between him and Obi Wan was worth it, and was honestly a good villain. I like the episode where he wrecks the Ghost crew in about 10 seconds.
