Some early wave VII Imperial tinkering

By Englishpete, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

I have always been a fan of the ISDI, but I always felt it lacked a little in FFG's original execution of it in the game. With the advent of the Kuat refit and a couple of cards from earlier waves I think its time to shine may be here.

The choice of Admiral was a tough one. I think Thrawn is a fantastic addition to the Imperial arsenal, but with the ISDI in this configuration, I feel that being able to double click, click, double click at speed three with JJ wins out. Thrawn will have more economy with a list with more ships.

The addition of the defensive slot and ordnance slot to the Kuat refit, along with adding a DCO, really makes the ISDI the brawler it should always have been and APT's are a no brainer on the Kuats. Add to this the fact that the side arcs now carry a blue die and full value can be extracted from leading shots to push those APT crits.

In a fleet that wants to close and pound away toe-to-toe so to speak, Boarding Troopers and Avenger on one is sort of obligatory, I am not sure about them on the second ISD, but they may be advantageous if Avenger can attack the BT'd ship as well.

Squadron cover is medium/light, but the list is designed to close fast and so its job is to hold enemy squadrons up long enough for the ISD's to deliver the crippling blows to enemy vessels.

The Gozanti will allow me to push 2 squads via Relay and to feed an Eng. token to an ISD to repair the shield damage that JJ will inflict from time to time.

Overall, the list is designed to take the fight to the enemy, close in fast, dish out severe punishment and weather the returning fire.

It lends itself to my style of play so I am hopeful it works out.

It will, at a minimum be fun to play, which is really all that matters.

I like it but I think I would prefer an ISD-II with GT, ECM & LS in place of your second ISD.

It gives you an extra front arc volley to deal with MSU opponents or fighters out the front arc without loosing a deadly volley at a ship. Also has better range and as Avenger with often be your first ship to activate to use those BTs an ISD-II can probably use that second activation better with more available targets.

I really like this list, looks like a blast. My only concern is the squadron screen. IMO you have more than enough ship to ship firepower with those fully loaded trucks, so you only really need to worry about delaying large bomber groups. Currently you are spending 60 points for 4 fighters, with only 3 of them actually contributing to the anti-squad game. For 62 points you can get Valen, 3 interceptors, and two tie fighters. 6 squads dedicated solely to killing enemy squadrons, and it nets you an extra deployment as well. Sure you lose strategic for PIC, but you are just as happy to take contested outpost and make the enemy come into those juicy front arcs.

Edit: Ninja'd by Mad Cat while typing my response. I agree wholeheartedly with his suggestions. Having played a good bit of an ISD 1 & 2 list, having the gunnery teams is immensely helpful to help even up activations quickly vs. MSU or to lay into a bomber ball after throwing your own squadrons into it; and then you still have the ISD1 avenger bt shenanigans to target the enemies biggest ship
