"I've got no real reads" but here is a huge post. And yes Truthi, it is going after someone who is "active" but not really. GNiPs hasn't been all that active and then we get this huge Day 1 list.
I'm seeing a possible GNiPs scum move to get either me or Broba, or to shield Broba.
Wait which is it?
Just now, Madaghmire said:Wait which is it?
Look this is just a guess, but it could be a scum move to do either.
If Broba is clear, then being interested in our clash is very scummy.
If Broba is scum, then it could be cover.
All guesses.

Other than that, he mentioned some RL stuff that somewhat explained his absence. (@Caldias - how'd it go, BTW?). He is doing what I believe is considered the classing submarining, is he not? Posting to appear to be present, but posting nothing of consequence, if even relevance.
Hi, went pretty well, I suppose! Found out going to court was unnecessary as my basket full of cats sister withdrew previous false allegations on me that she originally declared to try and position herself as a victim. Real life mafia!
Sorry I wasn't super active earlier. I liked the fish jokes, for what that's worth, and am able to participate more now.
In other words, my wife and I should be raising a two year old by Friday, God help us.
Ok...just a few quick hits, not a comprehensive list;
So Gnips posted a mostly helpful summary of the game. But that was pretty much what I got out of it. A summary. But since I was playing catch up, thanks!
I feel pretty good about Gink, in that he's playing consistent with Gink.
Looking forward to hearing more from Dras, tho D1 is rough on a first time player so I'll give him a pass today.
Ninja is an interesting case. He's more active today then normal, but I don't want to punish activity. That said, uncharacteristic behavior is often a tell, although its also uncharacteristic of his scum play. I'm spinning my wheels on him. The snap vote of Broba was intriguing.
Broba on the other hand, gave us a nice long nothing post, and he does paint us all as being snappy. I am always very wary when people attribute emotions and intent, especially where it isn't obvious or true, and I would contend this fits that bill. This could just be an honest assessment.
Pods being pod, but so far a bit more focused and restrained. Good steps. Gink makes a good point tho that he was quick to the call before breaking his silence, but I don't know if there's really much there.
Cal gave us absolutely nothing, except a cheeky "I'm here!" Hope the court date went well! (As I was writing this, he posted. Good luck with the toddler!)
Ovi has given me a lot to look at and I haven't sorted it out yet into anything coherent.
Truth I'm inclined to trust as the first person to the crumb pond, but I think thats lazy thinking, so I'm gonna need to give him another read.
When I'm able to read to Oni or JJ on day one, I'll let you know. Dont hold your breath.

Congrats dude! You'll be questioning it all the way, but it is worth it. ![]()
The best thing I've ever done is raise my sons.

Couldn't agree more with Cninj here, raising kids is an awesome adventure and your neice is lucky to have family that care about her enough to give her a loving home.
What more do you want to hear from me? I mean, day 1... I'm playing a game I don't really want to, but suggested to me it would be good to try. I am literally not drunk enough to enjoy either paranoia or accusation shenanigans, so I am just quietly watching at the moment.
Considering, in equal measure in past games, people are equally vilified on day one for both keeping quiet and making accusations or talking s whole bunch, I simply decided to not bother people until something else came up.

We just need a quick one liner about the size of your tackle then we can go about our days =)
On the mafia topic, why is it that I always feel I am like a go to scum vote? I feel like some people get a pretty much "Town until proven scum" rep going out the gates D1, but I have spent every game of mafia I have played being constantly on the chopping block for lynches. Is it because I have played more games as scum than town so my town play seems scummy? I feel like I am targeted because I am pretty active and make an easy target for people who lurk to just take a stab at someone with a lot of posts to piece apart like Dras was talking about.
Of course I try to post things of substance, but it is a matter of opinion as to whether those things actually help. I don't know why an honest attempt would read scum, I didn't make any accusations, just shared some thoughts. I DID get the sense that people were being meaner quicker in this game than previous games. I was trying to figure out why that was, and honestly, in a meta moment hope that pointing it out using a non-escalating word like "snappy" would diffuse it and get people to calm the eff down a bit.
Instead Cninj decided I was scum and put the early vote on me. Pod followed gleefully because he ALWAYS things I am guilty till proven innocent. I always hate it when people do the "ok then lynch me, I'll die fore the town" defense because it is stupid, not helpful, and always reads desperate scum to me, but honestly I don't think I can exert the effort this game if everyone is just going to read me scum D1 for no reason in a game where I actually AM town and I am going to be on the short list of suspicious people all game long again for sharing an honest thought in the opening posts of D1.

Well, we want to know what you think. Do you feel like anyone is lying, or trying to obfuscate? Its super important to understand that none of this is personal, no matter how, uhm, snappy, people seem to be. Its just the game.
Theres a degree of meta play happening today, as we've all had a few games together and are starting to get a read on each other.
As far as people getting nicked for being quiet or active, its kind of a mixed thing. It is a common strategy for scum to lay low if they arent being actively questioned and forced to defend themselves, so hanging back is often interpreted as scum play. Of course, being active can be a double edged sword, because it gives people a chance to actually look at what you say and either honestly (if town) or deliberately (if scum) misinterpret it. But if you arent active, you can't really influence the game, and risk being tagged for scum-marining whether you are or not.
That said, day one is hard, especially game one day one. So as far as I'm concerned, you are getting a pass on what I would normally tag people for while you aclimate yourself.

Wonderful! My oldest son just turned 3. It's a trying phase, but it's been more than worth it for us.
And now back to game - related stuff. Pod's moving back down towards the "I can't tell one way or the other" on my scum meter.
For the moment,

As for the rest, I'd like to hear more from @JJs Juggernaut (when his schedule permits). CNinja's insistence that at least some of its should be getting something secret and town indicative out of his breadcrumbing is odd to me.
Gink I can't tell, and I don't expect to at this point in the game.

Given our past history, that's a more than reasonable attitude to hold. My strategy d1 (and I've been town in every game here except the one where i was neutral) is much like it. The finger of d1 suspicion is fickle and random, and it is often unforgiving. Mechanically, the d1 lynch is an important tool in finding the scum. But I always feel bad when someone gets lynched over a stupid semantic issue rather than actual suspicious behavior.
And, fwiw, I tend to view the game as a puzzle rather than a source of paranoia.

He's due guys.
XD
It always is interesting to see who gets it Day One. I am sad that there are no Highlander references and subsequent confusion of Highlander references for Braveheart references.
Well, Pod is being inappropriate. And not just in a "inappropriate way of playing" kind of way, but actually saying things I'd flatly ignore in real life, if not actually wish him some sort of harm to silence him around me. I'd walk away.
I read and dismissed the fishing things as, effectively, people's desire to effectively carry on a meme - its the very core of meme-ism at its best (and worst).
I am doing my best to, effectively, try to separate what I think if the player versus what I think of the way they play the game. Its not easy.
Because rather than costing on the fact that people think I should be able to get away with not understanding, because hey, he's new at this, I'm still trying to actually work my way through to being constructive. Giving a Noob a free pass because they are a noob is, in some ways, insulting.
But not as insulting as others.
There's nothing really here yet for me to decide someone's got to go...
Being overly defensive can and should be a sign. Being completely blase should be as well. I know I'm going to fit into second category for a while.

Allow me to tell you a story about a panda. Not really a panda, just a person who used a panda as their avatar on a forum. But today's of no consequence.
What does matter is that he had a good streak lasting a substantial number of games, to the point that he always used to constantly type WHY AM I

You've been scum a lot, and it colors perception for sure.
That said, this is really defensive. And not really borne out by like...facts. Have you ever been lynched, champ? Because I don't remember you ever meeting Maxwell's Silver Hammer. Seems, uhm, disingenuous to complain about something that hasn't harmed you.
Of course people are suspicious of you. Everyone is suspicious of everyone.

Anyways, he always used to type WHY AM I ALWAYS ON TEAM GOOD? Every game. Without fail. Now, eventually he was evil, but for a long tinge he wasn't.
The point of the story - Don't get caught in the gambler's fallacy. And dying trust people who claim they're good based on past statistics.
thanks dras =(

I mean, I can just as easily not give you a pass if you're insulted, I think you know that wasn't my intent or a lack of respect for your gamer prowess. I totally feel that and I know I don't want people going easy on me when I learn a game.
