Epic primary attacks

By Rakaydos, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So I cant seem to find the answer in the rules.

When a 2 section ship makes a Primary Weapon attack, can it use any fire arc on the SHIP, or just the fire arcs in the SECTION that has an attack value printed on it?

The primary is bound to the section that has the value, even the CR-90 with it's TPW.

Where in the rules does it say that?

Also, does that mean that identical "limited" upgrades can be equipped to each half of a huge ship? And that each one canequip their own Automated Protocals/Ordinance tubes?

Huge ship rules, page 2. "Turret Primary Weapon

Some huge ships have a primary weapon that is a turret. Thus, the Ship card will show the turret primary weapon icon, and the ship token will show a circular red arrow as a reminder.

When that ship attacks with its turret primary weapon, it may target an enemy ship inside or outside its firing arc, and it measures range from the corresponding section’s base.

When that ship targets a ship outside of its firing arc, measure a line from the exact center of the chosen ship’s base to the exact center of the huge ship’s corresponding base. If this line is not obstructed by the blue center line on the huge ship’s token, the huge ship can declare the chosen ship as the defender."

Rules reference, page 13. "LIMITED†

A ship cannot equip more than one copy of the same card with the Limited trait."

Rules reference, page 13. "MODIFICATIONS†

Modifications are special upgrades that do not appear in any ship’s upgrade bar. Any ship may equip a modification unless the card is restricted to a specific type of ship. Each ship is limited to one modification."

A huge ship is a ship, thus only one modification, and no more than one of any Limited upgrade.

I hope this helps!

The problem I have with that, is that my understanding is a non-turret primary weapon can use any fire arc or aux arc on a ship.

If the second section is the same ship, it's a fire arc, and so a primary weapon should be able to use it. If it's NOT the same "ship", limited upgrades should be equippable on each.

the thing is, that huge ships that have two pilot cards have separate stats for each section. as the aft section has no primary weapon value, it cannot perform primary weapon attacks. you wouldn't lose shields in you aft section if someone attacked your fore section, would you?

there's a rule about where shield loss comes from, so that example is null.

I take your point about the statline for the rear section not having a primary value, though.
