Wouldn't Prequels Make More Sense?

By Allergic2Corn, in Star Wars: Legion

Instead of the OT wouldn't the Prequels make more sense for a war game? Clones and droids are both mass produced, meaning that they would make more sense being in a war. There is also more customization options for painting, especially the clones. They have many types of droids and clones allowing for more units, not to mention the many vehicles they have at their disposal. I also saw people wanting commanders that are more like their troops. The clones allow you to have people like Commander Cody and Captain Rex. I know many do not like the Prequels, but they are so geared towards military battle that they would make sense for a war game. Any other thoughts would be appreciated :)

The Clone War era would be more suited to having armies fighting armies, but the decision makers are trying to get the audience with the most disposable income on their side first. The Prequel generation will be in that position before we know it, and if this game is any measure of success, you can just about guarantee that the PT will be represented in some way.

Just have patience, and trust that the Original Trilogy era will be good enough for now. It is not clear to me if Legion is supposed to be armies vs. armies anyways, or small bands of insurgents vs. limited Imperial forces.

I really am hoping for prequels just so I can field a large clone army. While I'm indifferent to the droids, I've always loved the clones and their vehicles. They would be perfect for this game. I love them enough to sacrifice thematic era purity. Going back to the clone era also opens up the possibility for more Jedi.

I would love to see the Republic and the Separatists. I'm personally a much bigger fan of the prequel-era than the GCW era. (Simply because I like The Clone Wars alot. It's my favorite part of Star Wars and I was absolutely ecstatic the other week when Force Arena introduced TCW to their game.)

That said, I agree with Force Majeure. The majority of people seem to prefer the Original Trilogy and ALOT of people seem to hate anything doing with the prequels (I've met some that even hate the Clone Wars even though they haven't even watched a single episode of it. I guess it's cool to hate on the prequels and TCW, although that said I do agree that the Original Trilogy is better than the Prequel Trilogy in terms of quality, although there are quite a few things in the Original Trilogy that are just as annoying as things in the Prequels, like why TF did they build a second deathstar.)

FFG likely isn't allowed to use much prequel trilogy material yet. While not 100% confirmed by the rat, the (easily supported) theory is that Disney/LFL has put the kabosh on prequel trilogy material until they are confident the new films are able to stand on their own . Don't want people skipping Rogue One or Last Jedi because all they can think of when you say "new Star Wars movie" is the sand monologue do we?

Of course now we're starting to see the prequels coming back in things like Battlefront, but it remains to be seen how far Mickey is willing to let FFG take it...

I would be all over a separatist army... I am hoping they do go prequels at some point.

If the Gunboat in X-wing is anything to go by it might take time but if we effectively keep showing an interest in it and pushing for it then FFG might add them at some point. I feel there are even people who like painting who would possibly buy multiple sets of clone troopers to just run the battalions they want for a battle, rather than just getting as many as they fill they need for the game.

I see no reason it won't happen eventually.

The game's scope fits that era pretty well. Heck the rebel walker in the core box is an old clone wars thing right?

It does, but as mentioned above we are far more likely to see anthology and first order/rebellion forces before prequels, because marketing windows.

I actually found the 'mass produced' nature of the Clone Wars stuff robbed any drama from it. It's literally like two children throwing army men toys at eachother. I know they characterised some of the clones, and I like Rex in Rebels, but he works best as a 'solo veteran' type character rather then standing next to 8,000 guys who all look and sound just like him.

(Yes I know that's what this game will be but you know what I mean!)

I'm not just ragging on the prequels, which no I didn't really like, but also on Clone Wars which I've tried watching four times now (even a reddit-provided 'good episodes' list) and just can't get through mostly for this reason.

The reason why I'll start playing the game is if they're doing a Separatist Army. I want to field a droid army led by Grievous and Asajj!

Until they release it, I'll stick with Imperial Assault.

As opposed to a bunch of less smart clone "improvements" who look slightly different(but are near identical) that get their butts handed to them by teddy bears if they don't have at-at support?

Exactly why I'm not going to play Imperial, sorry should have made that clearer.

Clone Wars season 4, episodes 7-10 ("Darkness of Umbara", "The General", "Plan of Dissent", and "The Carnage of Kell"). Probably some of the best Star Wars content available. Even if they don't sway your opinion totally, you have to give props to Dee Bradley Baker, the voice actor of all the clone troopers; except for Krell's VA, Dave Fennoy, and a couple other minor parts, Baker is doing nothing but talking to himself with 4+ different clone characters, and absolutely nails giving each a different personality and behavior.
