Aquatic vehicles

By Vector, in Star Wars: Legion

To add more variation to the game, what do you think with the possibility of aquatic vehicles?

The potential for water-based unit would allow for more variations of gameplay.

Units which could be considered are the Amphibion and the AQ-5 Waveskimmer for Empire.

A list of other potential aquatic-based vehicles can be found here:

A unit that can only be used on one kind of map?

How many people on this forum actually *play* wargames, I wonder?

I don't like the idea, most vehicles in Star Wars are anti-gravity and i can't remeber any kind of boat in the new canon.

Not necessarily. You could add beach embankments and rivers to any terrain. Matches based on Scarif, Mon Calamari, Manaan, and Maramere, and suggested by @Orcdruid Kamino, Ord Mantell and Naboo, could allow for the advantage of aquatic vehicles. I wouldn't suggested water-based units early into the game's production run, maybe like around 8 waves later.

Bolt Action/flames of War D-day senario.

No it's not something you'd use often but having balanced... Ok at least official rules for water-based or amphibious combat vehicles would be kinda cool. And it would make for some fun narrative play.

EDIT: to add to @Vector 's list, Camino, Ord Mantell and Naboo.

No way...

1) There's no canon-design they could base this unit on.

2) Usability of such a unit is limited since only a handful of players would actually need this. I started playing wargames 18 years ago and every battle on a river/ water map was highly customized. (I played like... two...)

3) In the end, landing boats are just fancy markers... They just show the position where a a certain unit enters the game... I don't see people paying 30 quid or more for a large vehicle that might only be used in one or two specific scenarios and effectively does nothing but... being a marker...

The only miniature I can think of that might be published even if it won't fit into regular tournament armies is the AT-AT... Those landing boats are a great idea as terrain pieces or custom units for a custom scenario but I don't think FFG will go down that path...

Problem solved. It uses repulsorlift tech which means it can go over water and it works on land. It has turrets to clear the way for a beaching attempt. It can carry up to 1 full squad of Stormtroopers so its perfect fo FFG's marketing strategies. Also IT...IS...CANON!!!!!!!

That's why I feel like any aquatic units would be preferably considered maybe a couple of years down the line.

Also, whether something is Canon or Legends is not really a huge determinate for when considering units for any of FFG's games.

Looks dreadful though, it's like a floating shoebox.

I am highly doubtful that many players will have terrain to suit a waterborne vehicle. I also assume we would be barred from using many of our other units in a naval battle. The Empire had submersible stormtroopers for deep water operations and their star destroyers were also able to float a top of water, so it isnt as if these battles would not take place. This is fact if the 2003-2004 cartoon that leads up to reveng of the sith is still considered relevant, which it should be because it affects the films directly. Anyway I personally just cant see this happening, perhaps you could convert your stormtroopers to potray their equatic kin; that would most certainly be cool.

1. I did not know that about Star Destroyers, where does this occur?

2. The stormtrooper conversion.... would be pretty **** cool.

If you pull from Legends then every single possibility has been considered :P
