The book says it counts as a Success and A Triumph, but several of my players insisted that it gives 1 advantage too. The Rulebook does not state this, but they had an app that did it that way, and they said they saw it on YouTube. I looked through the errata, Dev answered rules, and threads and I can't find any info on this. Anyone able to help?
Triumph: does it give 1 Advantage?
Nope. Just success.
A single one will activate weapon effects and crits, but it's not an Advantage.
Edited by 2P51A triumph is powerful enough it should be able to cause an affect greater than or equal to a single advantage.

Yeah I agree, but I was just wondering about the count of symbols by the RAW for that result. The players assured me that it was Triumph = 1 Success + 1 Advantage + Triumph effect. I think it was a matter of reckoning the amount of threat that was generated in the checks in question.

Nope. It gives 1 Success and 1 Triumph
Triumphs are LIKE Advantages, but they don't count AS Advantages. The effects that a Triumph can do are about the same as 3 Advantage, but again, you can't add other Advantages to it as part of the effect. Also it can't be cancelled by Threat, while Advantage can be.
Edited by KallabeccaIf you look at the various tables, you'll perceive that a Triumph can replace any number of Advantages for one single effect.

A Triumph never cancels a Threat, only an Advantage can do that.

Yeah and they were trying to give that Triumph the effect of canceling a threat. I am trying to find out which app they were using to see what is up with that. They also referred to Pencils and Parsecs on YouTube but that is a highly house-ruled version they are doing.

I can tell you that it is not the official app.
As said, no advantage from triumph. E.g. official FFG dice app can confirm this. It doesn't give advantage from triumph. Only success and triumph. Groups can house rule it as they like, but it will affect balance.

Triumph is Triumph. As you have correctly stated above it counts an additional success, but other than that it is unique, much as a Despair is its mirror on the negative side. It doesn't need to act as an additional advantage, because if you look at many of the charts and skill descriptions, it is more powerful than that. It generally triggers many items that take one or more advantage to trigger, and cannot be nullified by a Despair.

The book says a triumph may be used to trigger any 1 adv to 4 adv effect in place of a triumph-specific effect.
Not in addition, in place of.
