Tool: Online SWRPG Shop Generator

By celofett, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

In regards to modifiers and pricing I would personally have it more like it is in the books. If you read the section on trading in the core books starting at 162 in aor but mostly 164 and 165 with particular interest in tables 5.2 and 5.3... you have a civilized, colony or inner rim world at 0 modifier then a core world is -2 And an uncivilized world is +4. So a plus 4 modifier is 4× the book price. Now technically those are the trading rules so I wouldn' follow that precisely for actual normal character buying of items. Maybe have core to colony be book price and do 1/4 increase per modifier for the rest. So uncivilized would be 2 times rather than 4 times. But I would use it for availability for sure.

Or maybe have the base price in your shop generator and have an option for putting in the gms own modifier value.

Although the images are a part of the problem for readability they are not the only issue. Some of the fields have too much info in them for ease of viewing.

Anyway thanks for listening and love the generator in any case.

This is a nice and helpful tool. I will definitely give it a try in our next session.

A small thing I noticed: When you select black market as shop type the legend changes to "streetwise level" & "negotiation level", but I think this should read "cunning level" & "streetwise level".

Would it be possible to add force dice to the shop? PCs with the influence force power likely want to add them to their negotiation rolls.

Hey there @Rogues Rule . I took a look at the book (pg 150) and it doesn't mention needing to use Cunning. Only that Streetwise is needed. I also noticed that it says if 3+ threats / 1 despair is rolled then the whole deal goes upside down. I might need to add a warning about that. I could be missing something else, do you know if using Cunning is mentioned in the books?

The force die could be added. How would they affect the role? Would white pips be counted as more successes and black pips be failures and affect which items are available? Would they affect prices? What's your thoughts?

Good thoughts. I'll do some more digging and work on adjusting this. I think listing the base price and the markup price together would be useful for GM's too. At least it'll give them some awareness. Also making the markup user editable would help.

Last night I started working on cleaning up the tables. Do you think item stats are really important? I mostly built it with the idea of a GM sharing the link with the group and having all the info there to make purchasing decisions without having to look up each item for their stats. I know the description (which is only the source info) can take up a lot of room. I can work on moving that sort of extra stuff into it's own page.

Thanks again!

Each skill is linked to a specific characteristic. And you have to look at both when you build the dice pool. For Negotiation this is Presence. But for Streetwise this is Cunning. So your dice pool depends on your Streetwise and Cunning ratings. They only say streetwise on page 150, that is correct, but at this point they assume that you know the basic mechanics of building a dice pool. If Streetwise is involved, Cunning (as the corresponding characteristic) is involved as well.

After thinking about the force dice thing, it is probably too complicated to be included. The pips could be spent for successes or advantages by the player, depending on what he wants. And if he flips a destiny point and suffers strain, he could use the dark side pips instead of the light. So it all depends on the players decision after the roll :-(

Ah! Sorry completely misunderstood your original post. I will update that. Thanks!

For the most part the extra info is available on swrpg.viluppo (Google swrpg index) so I would say the most you need to put in is the name, price, book/page, damage and crit rating for weapons, soak and maybe defense for armour... perhaps encumberance as well... into the shops inventory page. Then, and this is a LOT of work, a link to a page per item for the full details could be helpful but not entirely necessary. You could possibly link to the swrpg index's page for each item although it is a little behind last I looked... And you would probably want permission from the creator before doing that.

Is anyone else having trouble logging into the site or verifying your password? I can only use the 'Free Shop' Feature. Every time I try to click on my email link to verify me email the webpage it opens gives me a failure.

@kenan03 Hey there. Whats the error you're getting? Feel free to message me

I can't connect via HTTPS: can't establish a secure connection to a server "u6110043.ct.sendgrid.net". Tried HTTP and my uni network blocked the site as 'suspicious', so something's up.

Strange. The non https site always gets redirected to https (both www and non www). SendGrid is used as the emailing service. I'm not sure if they rewrite the links in the email though. Not sure why it would consider it suspicious unless it possibly violates one of their firewall rules.

I figured it out... The link generated by the email was https.... It would freeze and never load. I changed the beginning of the link to www and it worked.

First off, this tool is amazing. Thank you so much. I was just wondering how I can tell how many of each specific item are available in the market? I select the range from 100-200, or whatever, but is there a way to say to my players that, "they have three light blasters available, twenty ration packs, eight stun grenades, etc." I'm probably missing something obvious, but thanks for the help! Again, awesome tool.

@krpotter Hey, thanks! You're not missing anything. Right now there isn't a way to have a quantity for each item. The min/max is to limit the total number of items generated. Its definitely something I've thought about. At one point I wanted to have a GM view which gives the option to set quantities/custom prices/etc and users can click buy to either decrease stock or remove it from the store. I should probably revisit that...

This is very cool :)

Hi, I have tried multiple times to sign up for the shop and I can't get past the confirmation. I have tried two email accounts with both the same result. It times out when I click the confirm email aggress button in my email. I have also tried home computer, business computer, and phone.

Is the ability to make shops still available? I can generate 24 hours all day long. But I would like to be able to save which books I have for shop content and save reoccurring shops. You work is great and has greatly streamlined my games.

Sorry about that. Shoot over a PM with the email you signed up with and I can manually confirm it. If you can, include the confirmation address the email is trying to send you to so I can double check that as well. Thanks!

I'm also having a similar issue, my connection times out every time I try to click the confirmation link.

@Frostweasel PM me your email and I can take care of that. Send the confirmation link as well so I can try to dig into why its timing out.

I'm in the middle of rewriting the frontend for the site to give me some more flexibility when it comes to features so hopefully this won't be an issue in the future

Hey all.

I've recently started working on "version 2" of this tool. Theres some features I want to add and since I mostly use my projects as a playground I've started rewriting the frontend.

If anybody out there knows some javascript (and React + Redux) and wants to contribute, drop me a line! Even if you're just learning and want to hack on some things for practice I'm sure I can find some tasks for you.

For everyone else, if you've got some ideas for features shoot them over!

Hey everyone! Over the weekend I added a couple of new features:

  • Specialized Shops: You can now create shops that only carry specific item types
  • Quantities! Each item has a starting quantity of -1 (unlimited) which will show to users as just a dash (-). When a GM is logged in they'll see decrease/increase buttons which will allow them to change the quantity for an item. Players currently viewing the shop will see those quantities update without refreshing.
  • The Changelog : Anything new that gets added and some upcoming things I've planning on doing will be put on this page!

Check it out and let me know how it works out. As always, any ideas, thoughts, questions are more than welcomed!

Hi @celofett ,

This site is incredible, I can't wait to use it. My players are about to start a very trade/business focused campaign, so having your tool is a life saver!

I am having a problem signing up though, same as the issue described above, confirmation link isn't working in the email. Can you help?

Thanks & keep up the great work!

Hey @celofett , thanks for getting back to me.

I was about to message you my details when I tried the link again (to send you a screenshot of the error I was getting)... and it told me I was already registered?!?!

Not sure if you did anything at your end, but it seems like the link did work, it just looked like it didn't!

Either way, happily activated now and look forward to experimenting with all the features!

And once again, love the tool!

@Boff Ollymarus I figured the last person to sign up was probably yours so I confirmed it and just hoped it worked out :D

Hope it works out for you! Feel free to reach out with any issues or ideas you have.

Also, thanks a lot for the coffee! I appreciate it!
