When it works it works! My 1999 Squad

By SDCC, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey guys,

For a long time my brother has had a go-to squad. Scruff Squadron is a **** fine squad, that isn't something you usually see. But it suits him really well.

I'll be honest, I was jealous. I've long had the Defender as my go-to ship, but never a team around one.

Until now. Well, until a few months ago, but at the time I didn't know.

1999

TIE Fighter: Academy Pilot (12)
TIE Fighter: · "Mauler Mithel" (17)
Veteran Instincts (1)
TIE/sf Fighter: · "Backdraft" (27)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Collision Detector (0)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
Special Ops Training (0)
Pattern Analyzer (2)
TIE Defender: · Maarek Stele (35)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Tractor Beam (1)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE/D (0)

It's not your usual set up, but it works for me.

Go for the SF, the Defender will chew you up end game. Same the other way round. Go for the TIEs? You're not hitting the big hitters. And that Academy always stays around longer than it should whilst Mauler will get a nice R1 4 Red on you at some point.

It needs to go up against more lists, but it seems to fit how I fly.

Do you have a squad that might not be obvious but works for you?

I'm finishing up a special league where you are not allowed to fly uniques, and every generic card is as if it was unique. My list is dumb but it works.

Dagger Sq pilot, 24

Blue Sq pilot, 22

Red Sq Vet, VI, Targeting Astromech, PA, IA, 29

GSP, Snap Shot, Juke, CR, AWTP, AT, 23

Total: 100

3x imperial firesprays

no upgrades

never focus

only target lock

roll natties for about 2 rounds and it becomes unstoppable

Snapshot on Mauler is just plain nasty... also, Backdraft has no LWF, so he's going to be shredded if not carefully flown.

Yeah, Backdraft needs lightweight frame waaaaaaay more than pattern analyzer

I realised I could tweak things a bit.

Pattern Analyzer (2)
TIE Fighter: Academy Pilot (12)
TIE Defender: · Maarek Stele (35)

Actually FCS is far more important on a TIE/sf. If you only have 2 points to upgrade and you've got nothing on it yet, go FCS first! After that, either LWF or Pattern Analyzer are both nice to have, but far from essential. But don't leave home without FCS. It does serious work on a TIE/sf, especially a PS 9 (or even higher) one.

Here's my current favorite regen light Backdraft build. He never died at a five round tournament a few weeks back.

-- Backdraft /// Intensity, Comm Relay, Lightweight Frame, Advanced Sensors (37 Points)

I also had an Operations Specialist support TIE Bomber that helped him recharge Intensity. Advanced Sensors helped me get several double-shots from the title.

I had a fun 1911 squad for a little while, which wasn't so much an oddball "it just works for me" go-to, but the name is kinda similar. :P

Delta Squadron Pilot + x/7 title

2x Imperial Trainee + Adaptive Ailerons + LWF

Soontir Fel + PTL + Title + AT + Targeting Computer.

Delta up the middle, with the Strikers coming in hot. Soontir does his thing to the other side.
