I feel like it has been ages since the announcement. How long does FF usually take between announcing something and following up with actual info?
Just excited I guess.

It varies. They sometimes announce stuff and start dropping updates immediately. Other times they announce something and then we get 3 months of silence. FFG likes to do weekly updates for games. So they are likely planning (or have planned) how many updates they want to do. They run this updates up until release, so it's more of a system of backtracking from release to figure out when we'll know more.
I'd guess we'd see an article on combat and types of enemies. Another on leveling up characters and picking perks. Another on the dynamic mission system. Another on equipment and companions. Another on the various characters. And maybe one more on the various factions, maps, and how the board is variable.
So with a 4th quarter release planned, I'd figure the earliest we'd see much of anything would be first week of October. Total speculation at this point.
Total speculation? Looks more like an educated guess to me...
I still hopeful for a Descent/AI style Fallout game being announced

Eh. I guess I could see that, but it doesn't really mesh to Fallout all that well.
You know what would be AWESOME though? Coffinbox Fallout game like the old World of Warcraft game. So much of that could carry over perfectly.
Synths, mutants, ghouls, raiders, scorps, etc as miniatures all color based like the WoW game. Vaults are a perfect analogue for dungeons. The big bad bosses could be the various faction leaders. The leveling and skill building system of WoW would work perfectly for Fallout. AP instead of Mana. Health is health. Both have gear and abilities. I'm telling you, this would be totally work, and it would be super fun. I'm pumped for this fallout game, but if they did a WoW reskin for Fallout, it would be amazing.

or a Descent/IA style game like the old Fallout game...wait... haha
Every single combat scenario in the older top down was just like descent/IA, Every time you go into a vault, building, cave, section of destroyed city, shanty town is a opportunity to create a decent/AI map.
Fallout is designed for a crawler much more than star wars will ever be, because it started as a top down computer game adventure crawler

True, if you are trying to adapt FO1 and 2, then IA works...I guess, but those games weren't about the combat and action. They were RPGs. They were about talking to people, solving mysteries, completing a bunch of non-combat stuff. Sure, combat popped up, but it wasn't even descent/IA style combat. It was clear a swath with your shotgun and leave a bunch of bodies behind to prove you were there. IA is about completing a task in the wake of an unending supply of bad guys.
FO1 and 2 weren't just a series of battles in a vault. I just don't feel like a reskin of IA would do it justice.
It's not being done by FFG but there is a Fallout miniatures combat game that was also previewed at Gencon.

The miniatures for that game look amazing. I'll probably buy a few even if I never play the game.
Just wish both would focus less on FO4. It's one of the weakest entries in the series.

But it was popular, and recent. They are trying to draw fans into their games. Basing it on a 10 year old game no one plays or talks about anymore, basing it on a 20 year old isometric game is an even tougher sell.

Yeah, I understand that. I'm hoping the game sells well enough that they dip into the old stuff with expansions.

1st week of October! I spend too much time tracking FFG stuff apparently.
