Newby Qs: Toad and Teleportation

By Kijug2, in Talisman

After our first game of Talisman, I have a few questions for anyone who can clarify. I've reviewed the FAQ but don't see a direct answer.

1) My son turned into a toad and put all this stuff on the space. Over the next three turns he just moved back and forth one space. Those spaces happened to already have one card on them (no monsters) so nothing new was exposed. He turned back to normal and eventually moved onto his "toad space" and collected all his items. Is this correct? It seems the toad otherwise a) other players can collect his stuff if they moved onto that space, and b) the toad may lose lives if he moved and drew monsters. Are those the only two "bad" things for being a toad? (OK, other than delaying they game for that player.)

2) When a card, space, spell, whatever, causes you to teleport to another location, do you do what is in that other space? Examples: a) Draw one card and get teleported to the city--can you do city things on that same turn? b) Player B puts spell on player A and sends player A to another square--can player A pick up gold or items in that square at that time even though it is not currently his turn? If not, at the beginning of player A turn can he pick up items in that square or must he more first and, basically, not have a chance to pick up any items in the square that Player B teleported him to?

Thanks!

You may move back and forth as a toad. Your son was lucky that he did not encounter any enemies.

If you change back to a character, then you must first roll the die for your move in your next turn. ( You must first land (as a character) on that space to get your objects, followers and gold back.

Meanwhile he is a toad, other players can try to steal his stuff.

The Toad can lose his lives, if he lose from enemies or other bad cards.

You must always encounter the space if you land on a space. That means also for teleporting, except if it is not your turn.

You will always begin your turn with moving your character. You cannot encounter the cards on the space where you begin. ( but spell casting and abilities can be used before your move, if the spell or ability will allow you to use it before your move

#1: Yes, Toad's dropped cards are there for the taking. And I think you're overlooking the most "bad" thing about being Toaded, the humiliation partido_risa.gif !

#2:

A) If you move to a "draw 1 space" and then draw Patrol (returns character to his/her starting space), you then encounter that new space during this turn.

B) Player A wouldn't encounter the space since it's not his turn. Though I can't recall any Spells that move characters that you can cast on your turn, I think they are all cast at the start of the other character's (target's) turn. Transference is the only one I can think of, but you cast that one on yourself, swapping places with another char, the other char doesn't interact with the space, he just starts his next turn from there.

Just as Velhart said is true in my book as well. Being a toad is just one of the most bad thing that can happen in Talisman.

  1. In 3 turns your character is not able to develope anything.
  2. you may only move 1 space wich mens you often have to place yourself on a bad space. (your son was lucky)
  3. All your objeckts, followers, gold are in danger to be taken by other characters. Even if not you may spend many turns landing on that space again getting your stuff back.

Toad is just llorando.gif

Thanks for the info. One more Q before I play my second game...in a few moments!

I don't understand the Warlock's Cave. Are dice rolls #1 and 2 actually cause you to "go somewhere" so you can be teleported back? Where as 3-6 really you just do "right away" and are never teleported back 'cause you didn't leave?

Thanks!

If the warlock gives you a quest that you must kill a enemy, then you must first seek a enemy somewhere on the board etc)

As soon as you kill that enemy, you will be teleported immediately back to the Warlock again, to receive a talisman

The same goes for objects. If the Warlock says that you must discard a object and you have one, then it is discarded right away.

You might complete 3-6 right away, assuming you have the necessary stuff. If you don't then you'll have to go off and look for them. Note that if you can, you must complete the Quest, even if you don't want to discard a Magic Object or Follower (if you get Discard Magic Object Quest and your only MO is say the Ring, tough noogies, you must discard the Ring, same deal if your only Follower is the Unicorn and you get discard a Follower Quest).

Thanks! Roger that. Off to beat my son...he won the first game...errr....
