Two Player Game Box

By Rogue Dakotan, in Star Wars: Destiny

I'm super excited to see this and it has some great cards. I'm a little disappointed that they are giving new players the false sense that shields are a viable choice. I know this is showing that they are heading in the right direction. Vibroknife kind of broke the mold. If all colors had removal like yellows disarm it wouldn't be that big of a deal. I'm interested in hearing what others think of these csrds in the current game?

Do we know how many Dice are in the box? Am I gonna be able to buy one Box and have elite characters?

My guess is yes, just so you can play with a full 30 pts of characters. All the upgrades and weapons on the other hand, some of them will be single copies just like the original starters so most will want to by two. FFG knows how to suck wallets dry.

It says at the bottom of the article that you only get 1 of each card, and 1 die for each card. You'll need to buy two to have a full set.

Confirmed. I just did an unboxing video - only 1 of each die. You WILL want 2.

Video will be up in less than an hour.

Rey - Finding the Ways, is a mini Planetary Uprising, if you leave the shield on her because you are playing Vibroknife I really won't mind getting a free point of damage each time I activate her. If you are removing her shields each turn then you aren't getting anything from Vibroknife. Plus Rey can use Riposte and just deal 4 damage in a turn before resolving any dice, that may be a big swing if you aren't looking at shields in a new light.

Wow... I'm guessing I'll need to buy two to get two of all the cards? Man am I excited! I bet it'll be all sold out tomorrow...

Also, Hangar Bay = spoiler? Will YT-2000's become canon?

speaking of canon, is this a Dreadnaught in the background? And will it come to Armada?

Jerk move ffg

Yeah, a single box isn't even playable. That is messed up.

Does anyone know when this will be available in the U.K.?

We don't have Target here.

Poor finn! Poe took Your place and now has 2 playable characters.. was hoping for a playable finn character.. oh Well, stuff looks great.. only I don't know how to get in in Holland :( anyone know if this Will be in retail later on??

While I'd prefer not to have to buy two copies....They're kind of damned either way. Having full decks for two players would result in a VERY expensive entry level product.

My FLGS is saying about 2 weeks, I am in Australia, so 2-4 weeks depending on things I guess.

I like that you will hardly get any waste if you buy two boxes.

If we can't get complete decks this is the preferred way to do it.

Single die for all characters. What a garbage move. FFG is getting stingier and stingier with what they pack into their products in order to get people to buy multiples.

The only thing missing on Rey's new art is the Adam's apple.

If Daisy Ridley and Jake Lloyd had a kid..this art is what he'd look like.

Good cards, no wasted doubles if you get 2.

Decent content for a new player (well, 2 too).

Interesting content for "veteran" players

I like it.

FFG has always had the business model of making players buy 2 of X.

SW LCG had to buy 2

Game of Thrones 2.0 had to buy 3

SO that isn't new if you play their games.

For you experienced players, if I just wanted to pick this up as a single copy for casual play with my kids, what kind of experience do you suppose I would have, given that there is only a single copy of each card?

It'll be a fun little game, but 2 copies will make it flow better. And you would have 2 tournament legal sized decks.

The new L5R is three as well.

That's true, but it's getting worse and worse. As primarily an X-Wing player, I've been seeing more and more expansions with single copies of cards that really should have had two or more. I understand the "buy 2 or more of everything to get what you want" policy makes sense from a business point of view, but it doesn't mean I need to be happy about it. $60 for a basic card game with some custom dice is steep. Compare to Ashes, which had something like six complete decks plus 40(I think) custom dice for $50 in their base game. No need to buy anything else to play the full game as intended, several complete decks for high replay value out of the box, $10 cheaper and a much better value overall.

I likw Destiny as a game a lot. But I really dislike everything about the business model they've chosen for it. It would be nice, and would garner some goodwill from players like me who hate the collectible model, if they would at least periodically release 100% complete ready to play 30-card decks with everything necessary to play the full game.

And you get a lot of waste there if you buy three. I like this two player set a lot more. Only 4 wasted cards is also a lot better than the old starters.

As anyone tried to create ONE decent tourney legal deck from the 2 starter decks included? I know you would still be stuck with single die characters but...

I agree pkreynolds that it is tough in X-Wing when all you need is one upgrade card, its that way too in Imperial Assault sometimes. With Destiny though, I could see them making this a complete set in one box, but then the price would jump to closer to 60. This way a new couple could get the starter box, play it and then decide whether or not to invest. As experienced tournament players, we have to buy two.

You can't build a tournament legal deck with just one copy. There are only 14 hero, 15 villain and 11 neutral non character cards in the box.

Humm, worse? The first starters that came out, you had to buy 4 of them to get a playset... how can you compare? Also, they are called starters, they contain stuff to learn the game and introduce it to new players. If you decide to purchase 2, it is your choice.
