Do You Think We'll Have any Rebel or Imperial Droids on the Front Lines?

By Force Majeure, in Star Wars: Legion

Stemming from another topic regarding representation & variety of genders included in the regular troops, I got to wondering about droids in the Galactic Civil War era (Original Trilogy).

What kind of roles do you think would droids play in Legion? Strictly support like a (2-1B) medical droid, boosting power to a unit, possibly, like a GNK "Gonk" droid, or something else? What front line droids are out there besides probe droids in the GCW?

There are assassin droids and what not that are still being used in that timeline.

Also famous droids like Ig-88 and 4-LOM were operating as bounty hunters int hat time. K-2S0 on the rebel side for example, not strictly in the OT but in the right timeline.

Probe droids of course.

As for "squads" i cant think of any off the top of my head that were active in the OT timeline. There must of been stuff that was old clone wars droids still being used by people but i don't think the rebels or empire used any.

I somehow can't really see them not winding up in there, since Star Wars after all. I'll have to dig through the remnants of my once-massive collection of (sigh "Legends") novels at some point, because now I'm curious.

Well they just put sentry droids in IA ( as seen in rebels as thrawns minions) , we have the probe droids, and there no doubt will be several others.

There are a number of imperial droids:

the aforementioned sentinel droids, along with viper probe droids if course, but also; KX series droids, ID9 seeker, E-XD infiltrator.

The seeker especially, as both the Seventh Sister and Iden Versio use them.

Though in scale will be a bit tiny right? Maybe too small for its own mini (I'm thinking half the size of a Tau droid aprox) maybe they can come together attached to the back of a ISB special agent as part of some sort of upgrade card like ”ISB droid specialist"?

Thera are a lot of old B1-droids in the new books and comics on both sides. Roger roger.

A Mr. Bones mini would be awesome.

KX-series droids would be fantastic as models or upgrade normal units of Stormtroopers. I know they were meant to be security droids but still...

I really hope that's the way this game goes, where you upgrade the base units with individual models, rather than whole new core units. Leaves for more customization and more specific list building.

Shut up and take my money ?

I think we should have Probe droids in this game they would bring a great dynamic to the game. (Kamikaze style tactics)

I would love to see Scum/Mercenary factions of the IG series of droids. IG-88 was just one of a faction of assassin droids. According to pre Disney canon IG-88 broke free of the faction and became a gun for hire.

Bring on an IG series of droids. They could create a non-Boba Fett band of Mandalorian Warriors. The Mandalorians could be much like the Jump Troopers in SWIA.

Why has no one mentioned 0-0-0 or BT-1 yet!?

Now that you mention those two I cannot avoid thinking about its rebel counterparts... Dunno if the chaotic battlefields of the Galactic civil war are place for protocol droids and astromech... Sure some are iconic lovely characters but still, I have mixed feelings :P

If there are probe droids, would it make sense for them to be autonomous? By that I mean they have a predetermined AI that controls when and in what direction they move, what actions they take depending on their immediate context, etc. as opposed to the player picking the things I listed.

Well, I didn't mention Astromechs or Protocol droids because they aren't, to me at least, designed for battle. I don't think I'd like it if a protocol droid like AP-5 were to tell me in the middle of battle that swearing at the enemy would be frowned upon, you know?

BT & Trip aren't a usual kind of droid, if that makes sense.

I'd like to think there were some kind of battle droid that's not Trade Federation or CIS that was in use during the Galactic Civil War.

There are a couple of droids (Imperial) that I can think of that have made appearances in the Rebels TV show, but are they appropriate for the battlefront? I dunno.

I wouldn't mind FFG creating a droid or two that are completely original. They made up the Imperial Raider for X-wing, and now it's part of the SW canon .

Well both Trips and BT are in Imperial Assault so FFG can definitely see them on the battlefield.
