Also, you will find that a lot of people have X-Wing related ones. They were grandfathered in from a time when they were a viable choice, but that choice has been removed.

Signatures ahve also been removed.

Also, a few people do have custom avatars, but that's because they managed to sneak them in during a site update.

There was a very short time you could upload your own

For some reason they didnt make us change it.

I kind of want to change mine to a Runewars avatar, but since the Alpha Sq. Pilot isn't available any more, I'm keeping it.

None of us were offensive, so it probably wasn't deemed worth the effort.

Just pick a boring one to guarantee that you will stand out whenever you do post

I submitted a ticket to get mine changed to my own custom as it wasn't working for me by the time I logged in that morning.. They never responded

I have no idea from what mine is, but I've seen no one else use it, so I'm happy.

Wait, Drasnighta! You mean to tell me that if I changed my avatar now, I'd lose my TIE Fighter???

Now I'm too scared to even try switching!

That's exactly it.

It won't exist to change back to. You can only choose what is currently on the lists.

I'm thinking there was also a posting threshold that had to be reached as well.

Mine too. Never changing it now, even though I wouldn't mind something more X-Wing related.

I'm not a huge fan of Y wings in this game (but they're my second favorite ship next to the A wing as far as Star Wars goes)... But since I can't have it anymore, I don't want to change it. I know there's another person (or two) floating around with the same Y wing avatar, and I keep hoping they'll change it or stop posting........

There was a time when we could upload, but that was before we migrated to these new forums.

Blows my mind that X-Wing avatars are not a choice anymore... doesn't really make sense to be honest.

A response I got previously went along the lines of this (but I no longer have the email the direct wording):

FFG Licenses Art for specific uses, and in the case of X-Wing and Armada, Art is licensed specifically under certain terms of useage that includes direct marketing, box art and etc.

In those instances, that artwork is not licensed to be used in a Customer-Service/Feedback model, of which the forum comes under.

Art licensed for RPGs in the Star Wars Universe, as well as other games, are generally covered under a more all-inclusive license option, which is why you see the RPG licenses with their images, and why other games have their images there...

But artwork directly ported in/from X-Wing and Armada does not conform, so its not a choice - existing chocies are grandfathered in from when they were allowed, but there was no new allocations from that point on.

Oh man, it didn't occur to me until now that my Blood Bowl (Team Manager) dwarf is now a super-rare out of print Games Workshop forum avatar!
