Newbie help!

By player2846024, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all

I’m really new to the game so I’m looking for a little help creating a rebel list and imperial list that would be relatively easy to fly while I’m learning the nuances of the game but also not a complete pushover should I venture into my local gaming store. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Here’s a complete list of all I have so far, if there are one or two things you’d recommend adding to compliment what I already have then please list that too.

Core, TFA x 2

Millennium Falcon, B-wing, E-wing, Y-wing, X-wing x 2

Tie Advanced, Lambda, Tie Bomber, Decimator, Slave 1

Starviper

Extra cards:

PTL

Kylo Ren crew

R2-D6

Vectored Thrusters

Lone Wolf

Adaptability

Intensity

C3PO

Hotshot Co-pilot

Integrated Astromech x 2

TLT x 2

Predator x 2

Tie/X1 Title

ATC

Daredevil

Black One Title

Personally, I would suggest learning and try to be well versed with 3-5 ship lists designed to joust or joust with a flanker. So, 3 T-70 (I know you don't have a third, so Expertise Luke or Wedge could sub in), Vader and a small swarm, Combo of B, Y, and Biggs, Slave-1 and the Deci together can be decent. Upgrade to taste. Start with fewer upgrades and and learn how the ships fly and what the pilots can do, using generics more to add arcs and dice makes a list a bit more forgiving, Playing all aces takes more practice and are less forgiving to mistakes. Just food for thought. Be aware that most LGS groups are very freindly and helpful, and even when you get the pants beat off you they will take the time to re-hash things that may have turned the game in your favor or where you made a fatal mistake etc.....

An Imperial list:

Darth Vader-29 (tie advanced)

Push the Limit-3

Stealth Device-3

Kath Scarlet-38 (firespray)

Kylo Ren-3

Omicron Group Pilot (lambda)-21

Rebel Captive-3

Total: 100

Use the shuttle to block (plan your maneuver so the opponent ends up running into you). Then use the other two for clean up.

Rebel:

Corran Horn (e wing)-35

Adaptability-0 (+1 ps)

R7-T1-3

Han solo (falcon)-46

Daredevil-3

C-3PO-3

Chewbacca-4

Falcon title-1

Engine upgrade-4

Total: 99

I hope this helps.

You have a solid Vader build to start.

Vader: Engine Upgrade, Title, ATC, Veteran Instincts. 35 pts

Patrol Leader:

2x Academy Pilots

good too lean how big ships move so very differently than small ships, and two ties to harass with while Vader does Ace things so a good little mix.

Thanks for the advice guys!

In my opinion the best list for a tournement you can make is this:
Darth Vader, Lone Wolf, TIE/x1, ATC, Stealth Device (35)
Rear Admiral Chiraneau, VI, Kylo Ren, Gunner, Hotshot Co-pilot, Engine Upgrade (63)
The strategy is simple. Rear Admiral Chiraneau gets into range 2 of the best ship in your opponents fleet and uses Kylo Ren Action to either give "Blind Pilot" or another bad crit to it. Then shoots at it, removing its focus with Hotshot and adding a crit with his abillity, and if you do not hit you just shoot again with gunner still adding a crit. The strategy with Vader is also to get a crit the best ship in your opponents fleet. This way it is close to guarenteed that you get the crit on the best ship in your opponents fleet and with "Blinded pilot" prevents it from attacking the two first combat rounds hopefullly destroying it before it even gets to fire the third round. Then moving on to the next ship to be destroyed. This build is one of the best empire builds at all. It can win you Store Championships if you learn to fly it well.

On the other hand, if your focus is to learn to be a better x-wing player, then I would fly Vader as above with 4 TIE/fo like the list below. Keeping the Ties in a close formation and using Vader as a flanker. This will not win you many games, but you will learn a lot more by flying this than flying the above list. :
Darth Vader, Lone Wolf, TIE/x1, ATC, Stealth Device (35)
Zeta Leader (20)
Epsilon Squadron Pilot (15)
Epsilon Squadron Pilot (15)
Epsilon Squadron Pilot (15)

If you rather fly rebels and you want to learn to fly them, the below build is an ok build with a lot of survivability due to a lot of shields/hull. It will not win you store championships but you can win games against beginners and it is rather simple to fly.
Han Solo, Determination, C-3PO, Gunner, Millennium Falcon title (56)
Rookie Pilot, R2 Astromech, Integrated Astromech (22)
Rookie Pilot, R2 Astromech, Integrated Astromech (22)
The most importent thing to remember in this list is, that if Han is getting shot at you take an evade token as his action and guess 0 Evades with C-3PO. That way Han has a minimum of 2 Evades when he is getting shot at. Also remember that Han can discard Pilot crits with Determination.

Apologies if I'm missing something but I thought that blinded pilot only caused you to miss one round of attacking?

That's correct, but usually one round is all you need to remove said ship or protect yours long enough to get away and regroup.

Yes and there is two "blinded pilot" crits in each damage deck, so you can blind the same ship for a maximum of two rounds
