When I get into games, I tend to go big. I've never even played a game of Destiny, but I've watched a ton of videos, I've searched recent tournament results, I've scoped out the scene at my FLGS and I've been looking for prices online for legendary cards. I love the concept, and I think it's a nice break from CCGs and LCGs I've played in the past. From what I've seen of this game, I'm hopeful that it's something my wife will be excited about playing with me. She loves board games, likes MTG, hated Netrunner--she's pretty good about trying new things, but the harder it is to play, the less likely she is to be into it. It breaks my heart, for example, that I don't think she'll ever play the new Legend of the Five Rings LCG. I'm also hoping it's a game my daughter will be into in a year or two, when she's better able to understand games.

In any case, I picked up two booster boxes each of Awakenings and Spirit of Rebellion from two different vendors. SOR came first, so I cracked open a box. Very first pack of Destiny I ever opened, and a blue die with one of the Fetts tumbles out. Force Speed.

That's a really exciting way to start a new hobby! I don't think I'm going to open any more packs today, going to leave work today on that high note!

Ha, nice! Same thing happened to me. Watched a bunch of videos, listened to some podcasts, articles, card lists, etc and decided the emokids deck was totally right for me as a first deck. So I proceeded to look up singles prices and sure enough, the deck I wanted contained the most expensive card in the game. This happens to me more than I'd like...

anyway, I had planned to buy the whole deck (as singles) right out the gate as I have a bunch of credit at an online store, but I held off. Later I found a LGS that has booster boxes of both Sets, so I bought 2 SOR and 1 AWK. Pulled a FS in my first pack and then got another in my second box as well. 2 Force Lightings, too.

Destiny players seem like a really solid community with a nice mix of ages and backgrounds, which is nice. Looking forward to getting involved!

I jumped all in on Destiny when I first read about it here on FFG. I got a box of Awakenings when I could, and I've been very happy with it ever since. My wife is very similar to yours in that she likes a simple game in which she can remember all the rules without me having to help her (if I help her or let her win, I'm cheating...). She was skeptical of the game at first, but I taught her how to play it, and she beats me all the time (without me "cheating"). And I still have yet to acquire a Force Speed, but I can honestly say that the legendaries in this game are definitely nice, but not 100% necessary to have fun with the game (I don't even have FN-2199, because I'm a TRAITOR!).
