Rulebook Only?

By Falconer2, in Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game 30th Anniversary Edition

Will there be a way to buy the Rulebook alone and not the Sourcebook? I will want Rulebooks for all my players, but we only need one Sourcebook.

Good question but as of yet it looks to be a sleeved combo pack. Nice too see someone including their players in this reissue in the purchase:)

Doubt it. From the announcement article, given this is a limited edition collectible, it sounds like the only method these are being sold under is as a sleeved collector's set.

So if you want to purchase multiple core rulebooks, you're stuck having to buy multiple sourcebooks as well.

Though frankly, the rules are simple enough overall that you really only need a single rulebook, with the sole exception of if there's any Force users in the party, but they can just use a sheet of paper to write down what their Force powers do, or type them up into a reference sheet.

Try this or even this for alternatives, but this might even be better.

I second this!

I'm only getting the one copy, but I will give players a few practice sessions to learn the rules. I'll then type up their character and any rules for their character so that they have it easily to hand.

I know, I know.

I’m just offering FFG my money for shiny rulebooks if they’ll take it. ^_^

One shiny rulebook is great, but for grubby-handed table use, those used copies are great. It also helps that you can get 2-3 of them for the cost of a shiny copy. Those old WEG books had great bindings too, something that FFG's books often lack.

Also, my family got the TFA Beginner game in a fall-apart box. It's clearly designed more for looks than durability.

Beginner sets are kinda chintzy the only advantage I saw was through www.thewarstore.com etc you can get them for under 20 and it's a good disposable rule book starter and the set of dice make it worth while...That's before of course you notice the rules don't work really well. Lol

That's been about my only complaint with the Beginner Boxes, is the flimsy cardboard they use. If they'd done something like WotC did with their 4e and 5e starter sets (i.e. a much sturdier cardboard box), then they'd be great. But, it's probably an issue of cost, thus forcing FFG to use cheaper/flimsier cardboard in an effort to keep the price point as low as it is.

^Geuss they don't receive funding from Disney, and Disney requires a cut of all FF Star Wars sales.

For all ventures of this sort including computer games it is alllll outsourced to private companies just incase the tenuous idea fails if it succeeds Disney just collects royalties. Look at Star Wars Lego!

Nor would any licensee producing product receive support from the license holder. Any costs incurred are up to the licensee to cover, and if they don't make enough money to cover expenses (including the licensing fees) then it's the licensee's problem.

Lego doesn't get anything from Disney or Marvel other than the right to produce products using their intellectual property. Nor did WEG or WotC when they were producing Star Wars products when Lucasfilm was a separate corporate entity, with any costs incurred being up to WEG and WotC to cover, and if they wound up taking a bath on a product, then that was their problem (and part of why WEG lost the license in the first place). Green Ronin certainly didn't get any fiscal help from BioWare or EA when they were working on the Dragon Age RPG box sets.

Yeah, those beginner boxes were crap, weren't they. I have all four stuffed into my Age box - the only one to survive. The sheer volume of stuff inside seems to be giving rigidity to the box, extending it's life.
