Mood Music for Star Wars

By splad, in Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game 30th Anniversary Edition

I have when running WEG Star Wars had theme music in the background. Mostly Star Wars music but not always. While the palate of John Williams has been expanded by Michael Giacchino and do not forget Joel Mckneely's Shadow of the Empire score. I find certain composers especially neo-romantascism style add a very conducive atmosphere to playing. Jerry Goldsmith (mummy), Hans Zimmerman (inception, gladiator), Howard Shore (Lord of the Rings) or something a little more contemporary like Steve Jablonsky (transformers). All set a certain tonal taste which i find helps gel a group just as it cements emotions and actions in the theater. So what or who do you find that adds to you and your rpg sessions?

Vangelis, Hans Zimmer (Pirates of the Caribbean especially) and, of course, John Williams (Star Wars) are my top three. Steve Jablonsky (Transformers) is another I like.

Themes from Airwolf, Battlestar Galactica (original) and the movie Jack Ryan shadow recruit (good mood setter for those covert sneaky sessions). Not sure of the composer, but the music from the movie Dune. I've even been known to use some classical with The Planet Suite and the music Nicholas Cage was listening to in Knowing when the world was ending (forget what it's called). Lux Aeterna.

Those are the ones that jump to mind.

Lol airwolf. But yes I applaud your use of music from genres like spy movies. I know John Williams is the main man, he also has some other scores easily repurposed like Indiana Jones, barring the main theme. Another good composer which can fit well in to the star wars ambience is James Horner. The wrath of Khan soundtrack comes to mind for a nice tense space battle.
