I can't quite make sense of it though, maybe it's just the angle and size, but it seems like the mainland is divided into 8 regions (and what I assume is Shadowlands on the southwest corner). What's the tan coastal region that appears to be east of Crab and south of Crane? Directly across from the island?

That is either Yasuki and Daidoji area, or it is wasp / fox / sparrow.

...they keep emphasizing seven honorable clans.

Well, they can't be including Scorpion in that. #MantisConfirmed

Agreed. Too much room for any number of dishonorable clans.

So far, I got this:

- The Dragon is considerably larger, occupying lands belonging both to the Unicorn and the Lion in Old5R.

- The Lion is considerably smaller, but they are no longer land-locked.

- The Crane has lands that were formerly Scorpion.

- The Crane and the Phoenix no longer border each other (they have the Lion coastal region wedged between them).

- Earthquake Fish Bay is now roughly half its former size.

- Shinomen Mori is now tiny, maybe a quarter of its former size.

Which proves that the Dragon Clan will not be able to defend their over-stretched land, now with a cult/sect beginning to take shape in their lands.... which proves that the Dragon Clan is weaker than at least its neighboring Clans, given their low birth rate... which proves that FFG deliberately hates Dragon.... which proves that Dragon Clan sucks...

why oh why does FFG hate us so much????

:D

I wouldn't put money down betting that the game board is an accurate representation of the setting's canon geography and territory.

Agreed. The promo even mentioned it is set early in Rokugan history.

For the LCG and story in general I bet we'll get a "real" map of how things are currently.

Keep in mind, the board game intro talks about the "early days" of the Empire, so it wouldn't be too out of place to expect this to represent an earlier setting than the card game. Assuming of course that they include the Ki-rin clan rather than Unicorn. ;)

I played the Game of Thrones game two weeks ago, was one of the most miserable game experiences of my life.

If they get rid of the random supplies and recruits, and limit the number of elections... Add in a five turn limit...

This may fix all of my GoT complaints.

This is the perfect game to get me familiar to the actual land of Rokugan. I can guarantee it's not a re-skin, not what FFG does. Looks awesome, can't wait!

I'm really glad they are coming out the gate quickly with board game offerings in the setting. The fact that it takes place during the early years of the empire makes me happy. I'd like to see more stuff set in the historical setting for Rokugan.

It does look a bit like AGOT the board game. It's not exactly the same thing since this game seems to be about collecting honor rather than taking castles. Also there is some sort of hidden role mechanic which wasn't an AGOT thing. AGOT the board game is pretty much diplomacy with a fantasy theme. So that's always not gonna be for everyone. I wonder just how diplomacy like this game will be.. That said my group loved AGOT the board game. It was a lengthy game though so it doesn't come out all the time.

To me there is something slightly unexciting about the look of this game though. I guess I was expecting more character artwork considering L5R has tons of personalities to portray in the game. Also plenty of art between the new card game and the old to help illustrate the setting for people new to Rokugan. They've decided here to go with more iconography and a more subdued graphic design. Not saying it's a bad looking game. It's a perfectly nice looking game. Also I guess this helps differentiate it from the card game's look.

Wait until the RPG is released. So much artwork and fluff!

That I am definitely anticipating. This seems like more of a strategy lover's game than a story lover's game.
