Force Friday... my guess

By blackholexan, in Star Wars: Destiny

Ok, it is 30$ box and it is The Last Jedi related.... might it be a new 2-players Starter pack for Destiny?

A part of me hopes it is something like that.

My spoiler hater part does not want any hint on the cards about the movie.

I am so torn apart XD

Its just one card called "The Jedi must end".

?!

Don't worry, FFG will avoid spoilers with generic names (like X-Wing two years ago with "Red Ace" and "Blue Ace", who are probably meant to actually be Jess Pava and Snap Wexley...) so instead of Kylo Ren, we'll get "Wimpy Sith Grandson" and instead of Rey we'll get "Overpowered Macho Female Lead Character" and instead of Snoke we'll get "Weird Unintimidating Bad-Guy Who No Matter What Disney Does, All the Fans Will Hate" :)

No, the mystery product won't have anything to do with any of FFG's current Star Wars products. They literally said "new product" in their announcement, after referring to Destiny, X-Wing, Imperial Assault and their RPGs as "products."

You're reading more into it than exists. They said "new product," not "new expansion to an existing product." X-Wing players think it's one thing, Destiny players think it's another, Imperial Assault yet another.

Furthermore, it *wouldn't make sense for an expansion to be the big Force Friday surprise*. Force Friday isn't about a particular subset of gamers, but about Star Wars. It will be new and it will have, or is intended to have, mass appeal. Force Friday isn't about making 3 people happy; it's about making Disney tons of money on Star Wars merch. An expansion to an existing game with an existing base won't do that on Force Friday any more than it would on a random Tuesday or Thursday.

And yet, two years ago, the Force Friday surprise product from FFG was the new X-Wing Core Set.

A "new product" in no way entails a new product line. A 2 player starter for Destiny or an Episode 8 Box for X-wing are also "new product".

The idea that a new expansion to FFGs two existing products wouldn't have wide appeal is laughable. Those two lines have the most mass appeal out of anything FFG does. Store owners, who've had to purchase 18 units blind, are crossing their fingers that this is X-wing or Destiny related as it will sell out with no effort. A new game with absolutely no promotion behind it that they'd have to learn day of so they could answer questions would piss them right off.

This is a hobby side only release, this is not a mass market product. I don't know where you are getting that impression from.

Hope is not a strategy

I'm guessing it's neither X-Wing or Destiny. But possibly a new hybid/cross over type of games we already have?

Wouldn't make sense to hedge their bets on one existing game as Armada, Xwing and Destiny are big sellers for them. Also, sets for all three being teased/released relatively soon it just doesn't seem likely.

I wouldn't complain if it was the rumored 2-player Destiny set though. :D

Are there actually rumours about that? I was unaware of that, it was just a blind guess (... and I'm still not sold on hoping that I'm right or wrong :P)

So long as it's not another version of Kylo and Rey, I'd be down for that, but being it's a FF product and pretty much has to align with TLJ, what else could it be, Luke and Snoke? Doubtful.

Not that I necessarily disagree, and I definitely hope you are right, but I think the possibility should be considered that you are the one reading more into it than exists...

Less than a day to find out! I hope whatever it is that is available will interest me. But the trip to my FLGS to find out won't be wasted since "Rise of the Empire" for Rebellion has hit the streets regardless.

I'm reading the words they used. Go to any forum for any Star Wars-related product and you'll see all the people certain it's an expansion for their game. No where does it say that, but it does call it a "new product" while calling all those lines "product." I'm not even speculating; again, I'm reading the words they used.

And yet, two years ago they didn't put out an announcement and their gambit with mass appeal X-Wing flopped. That's why those sets went for super clearance $12 at Target in January.

Now they were the spoilers we were looking for!!

Good call blackholexan!
