I'm excited for this !!

By goncardoso, in Star Wars: Legion

Tbh at first i wasnt that excited but now after a time and after seeing videos and pics, i must say i'm pretty on into this !
Im sad that this probably will kill IA, but this looks so cool. This was the miniature SW game i wanted in some time now.

my doubts are :

- can we expect this january-february ? i hope it comes out soon

- how wil the expansions work ? not very into other miniature games like this, WH 40K for exemple, so i dont know how this works.. will they come as solo characters like IA or pack of soldiers ?

- will it have big figures ? When i say big i mean AT-ST, AT-AT, etc. I hope so cause it would make this game much more epic and completed.

- Only OT ? I think this game as potencial to go bigger and include more timelines in it. I hope they add prequel and sequel, finally.

Anyway i'm pretty excited for it

Legion announced for "early 2018".

Just like Runewars expansions, I think. So, solo charachters/vehicles and pack of soldiers both.

AT-ST on box art.

Nobody knows.

AT-ST most likely yes. I hope they make it in scale which would be massive.

AT-AT most likely not. It would either be a ridiculous large model that costs a thousand dollars and is practically unplayable or it would be a still quite big and pricy model looking ridiculously out of scale.

I hope so. no timeline gore for me this isn't trek!

Depends, i know ur thinking of it very realistic but could be a little smaller to be part of the game. anyway ur right it will probably not be in it.

why not ? this game as potencial to have all eras.

In Scale is just impossible. Scaling down could be done but you would have to scale down a lot. So it would still be ridiculous large and while the scale might look ok-ish in comparison with infantry it would not with something like an in scale AT-ST.

As I said I do dislike the timeline gore it takes away immersion. Also I think there isn't much to get gameplay wise. I mean Clones and FO are basically reskinned Imps. And Resistance is just Rebels. Seperatist Robot Army might different enough to be interesting but I'd rather prefere to add the Droid Gotra as a faction and ceep it in GCW era

I must join the no-timeline-gore team! It indeed takes away immersion and will bother me a lot to have to buy minis that I don't like due to power creep.

But I understand that prequel and sequel trilogies have its fans. Also it might be necessary if FFG wants to have several armies. I can live with that but no time line gore within a single army. That might be a good middle point to have most people happy from what I'm reading in this forums.

Fro the game to flourish...down the line im sure they would have to include classic forces and also as much as they can from the prequels/clone wars etc. Variation and choice = good imo.

Definitely needs to be sense within individual army lists. Timelines for fighting other armies would be nice...but would also restrict it maybe?

Maybe a 'periods' system. Clone Wars. Galactic Civil War and then whatever its called after that.

I am all in for different factions but we do not need 3 Armys of guys in white armor. There is imho no need to stroll to the prequels or the sequels to get some interesting armies.

The simple fact is, if the game sells well, FFG will add as many variations of either faction as they can. There is a finite market for the game and only so many standard stormtroopers or rebel troops that anybody needs.

- Unknown as of yet. 'Early 2018' is the only official line.

- A box with a complete unit + upgrade figures and various upgrade cards. So a box of five troopers + two diffrent heavy weapons, a box of 2 speeder bikes, a box with the walker etc. Going by previous exprience, unit boxes will contain upgrade cards not found in the core set.

- At Gencon, the chief designer mentioned AT-STs and (Snow)speeders while winking.

- The official line from the designer is OT for the foreseeable future, but nothing's off the table.

All jokes aside, I feel that Legion would have fit better in the Clone Wars era. There is so much variety in troops, vehicles and potential command units.

I understand that most of us hobbyists are Original Trilogy minded, so they have to cater towards that, at least initially, but the Prequel Generation is coming into its own soon. You can pretty much guarantee we will see that era coming to Legion before long.

Personally, I'm just happy (and ready) to jump in when the game finally arrives.

The part of the game that I'm most anticipating is the battlefield selection phase where you determine deployment zones, objectives and conditions. Just about every game will be unique and have it's own flavor. That and from the noise being generated on the Legion Forum, I'm expecting there will actually be people to play against from day one!

I LOVE Imperial Assault, but finding games to play can be so sporadic sometimes. X-wing is still healthy in my area, but sometimes I just want to step away to IA for a breather and there's no one there to play. I don't play Destiny or Armada (they are fine games, but they're just not for me,) so this would be a great solution for my situation. I've never turned down a chance to play IA yet, and I don't expect to either once Legion arrives. For me, they can co-exist peacefully.

So excited for Legion too!

Even the core set is not OT-only; AT-RT is from the Cone Wars.

1. The designer said GCW era

2. It's a salvaged AT-RT. The rebels use what they have even if that means old clones and their tech.

2 is actually a great concept. This way they can bring in only the really cool stuff (The AT-RT is magnificent model) or tanks they might need for balance (I believe that due to the impact mechanic we will be seeing some armored vehicles).

1. GCW era =/= OT-only (also designer said GCW era "for now")

2. AT-RT does not appear in OT

It appears in canon materials of Age of Rebellion Era.
In Darth Vader comics for example.

The Original Trilogy will most likely be the formal starting point of all things Star Wars as Disney has tried to distance themselves from the Prequels as much as possible. Their biggest mistake was cancelling the Clone Wars Series to make way for Rebels once again staying within the GCW timeline. Although they did bring back characters from the Clone Wars Series and tie them into the GCW era nicely.

In short, the main point for that small rant is to objectively hope that FFG will possibly create a Second Edition of this game solely based on the Prequel era. I don't know that I would want an "Expansion" or just some Ally/Villain packs and FFG says "here you go, here are the Clone Wars" I feel the Clone Wars era would have the need for a "Core Set" as well.

Honestly I would love to see a "Rogue One" Expansion. I would like to see a squad of Scarif Troopers and Dark Troopers on the table. The Rebel Troopers from the core set would fit in nicely as they are.

Supposedly when Disney bought the galaxy and decided to launch an annual production with TFA, the marketing team also decided to kill most of the prequel merchandise as well and refocus on classic trilogy stuff. Essentially they wanted the public to remember how good the original films were, and forget the prequels even existed in the leadup to TFA release. Heck, even as recently as Rogue One they kept calling it a "stand alone" when they knew darn well it was a prequel since you couldn't go in totally cold to all things Star Wars and "get it." They just didn't want the new hotness associated with a movie series about trade disputes and the negative aspects of sand.

Now it looks like they are starting to back off that a little with Battlefront having Clone Wars material, and Obi-wan the Movie being announced.

So.... Yeah, no clones yet, but probably in the future if the line performs well...

I'm not in any hurry for prequel era things. I was not a fan in the beginning, but time has tempered my initial take on the films. Being able to spend more time in the era via the Clone Wars cartoons vastly helped improve my views on the era in general and I actually like the setting.

Having said that, for the generation after me, the nostalgia goggles for the prequel era are going to be firmly in place in the next few years. How that translates into Legion is anyone's guess. Maybe they'll do a side-by-side version of the game where we have the choice to play Prequel, Sequel or Original trilogy battles.

That's what I hope X-wing 2.0 would be if that ever came about--a Prequel setting and a conversion kit for anything OT and beyond, but I digress.

Thought I had to go to work today. (22 years working construction, hooray for steel toed boots, polyester high-vis shirts and callouses you can stick a match to without flinching!!), turns out the boss decided to observe the holiday after all, we're staying home!

Suddenly in a good mood!

Suddenly want to participate in @goncardoso 's enthusiasm.

What are you guys excited for, exactly? Here, this thread is Star Wars Legion Thanksgiving, what are you thankful for??

I'm thankcited for .... well I probably won't have many chances to actually play , being in a hobbyless expanse, a cultural nerd desert, high and dry with no FLGS or gaming community in sight for miles upon miles.. just hunting and fishing clubs and stores and endless herds of roving pickups with stickers that say "I Hunt WhiteTail" over the silhouette of a kneeling woman. <_< ....

I'm thankful for a box full of Stormies and Troopers to paint and base and imagine stories and personalities for. I'm excited to build terrain and have to find shelf space for it. I'm excited to theorycraft army lists and compare notes with folks on the interweb.... I have found eleven notebooks full , and I do mean full, like lacking in usable paper... because that's what I was looking for, was some notebook paper... of X-Wing lists and thoughts. :( LIke I didn't even realize I had sat around and daydreamed quite that much... but oddly enough I'm thankful for the opportunity to do that again. And I'm thankful for the probably rare but slightly possible opportunity to get my wife to play with me.. mostly from sheer sympathy.

i know the feeling, where i live is hard too to get people excited with star wars products. i have to go 150 km to experience armada / x-wings.. still my LOVE for star wars is too great and i find this game solo playable at the least ( ofc its made to go 1x1 or 2x2 ). As for painting, unfortunantly i suck at it and dont have the patience or the time or the gift to do them.. but still cant be that bad

Painting is not as difficult as one might think. The biggest hurdle is convincing yourself to make the initial attempt.

For the most part, painting is like coloring a coloring book in 3d. All the elements are already laid out, you just have to cover it in colors.

It's a 3 step process:

1) prime your figures

2) lay down base colors. Like when getting dressed, you start with skin, undergarments, shirt & pants, coats & vests, boots, sacks & hat/helmets. Work your way from the inside out. (Does that make sense?)

3) add washes & highlights. This is where the model comes to life. Washes are essentially watered down paint (a dark color) that fills the cracks, crevices & creases to emulate shadows and can be bought pre-made. Highlights are typically the base color or a tint of the base color (a tint is your base color plus a drop of white to make it lighter) that is used on raised edges to emphasize those surfaces.

At arms length that should be good enough a.k.a. "Tabletop quality".

Give it a shot. You can buy a cheap set of acrylic paints (in a tube usually), a cheap set of brushes and a palette to lay paint down for mixing and thinning down (a paint palette can be a piece of cardboard or plastic lid) to start. All told, it could be as cheap as $20.
