I finally broke down and picked up both starter decks and a couple Awakening packs. Any advice for a new player?

What'd ya get in your packs? Someone might be able to help you with a little starter deck building.
Singles are super reasonable right now. Don't be afraid to buy some to build what you want. Except the power cards, most rare and uncommon are available for less than a pack's cost.
1) Look at the cards you got. Any fancy legendaries? Any double rares? Try to plan your deck around those. Characters are really important in your first packs (fun fact: my first deck was Poe/Padme
As i had no starter at first and got only those 2 in a first packs
)
2) Packs vs Singles. Well its up to you for now. I suggest you buy some packs first, due to fact that you need to build common and uncommon base anyway - no deck can be made without those and some even base on those with very few upgrades.
3) As soon as you hit 30card, 30-ish character point deck - go and start playing. You will get a beating for sure (i havent won a single game for my first 2 tourneys
) but don't worry. Those games are just for you - to learn interactions (manual won't teach you these, trust me), and to probe your deck.
4) Unless you are some kind of CCG savant your deck at this point is clumsy, unoptimised , with a lot of "dead cards" that will start to emerge after those games. Now its time to buy singles, look at the cards and you will get a felling "oh this gun is nice" "Oooww if i had this removal in my deck i would not loose that game" and so on so on.
5) swdestinydb.com - look for deck ideas there. You can find really cheap, really nice decks there. Just remember those decklists (i mean the good one, cause there is lots of "ill just post a bunch of cards i own into a deck..." lists, are not rigid. They are version that THAT particular player like and use, they may work even better when modified.
Youtube - lot and lots of streams to watch. Don't be like my wife: "why you keep watching Destiny on YT for gods sake? And why do you think i'm winning most of the time?
" YT is great place to learn.
6) Now you are at home, you feel the game, you have some cardbase to sculpt from and you know where to look for deck ideas.
YouTube is my favorite place to go and learn new games. I love Star Wars LCG so people said I would like Destiny. My first to packs came with Diplomatic Immunity, Immobilize, Logistics, Closing the Net, Hunker Down, and an Endless Ranks to name a few.
The characters are the most important. Certain good ones aren't even that costly, then fill the deck with attachments and low cost events and you'll have something playable.
I realized the starter decks don't have a lot of resource cracks which allowed me to drop an Endless Ranks. That was fun. Lol
There's many more combos that would work with the starter, but I'd suggest buying FN-2199 as a single to get you a full 30 point team with eKylo/Trooper/FN. He's very cheap to buy and would be a solid start.
There's quite a few cheap weapons/upgrades for blue and red villians as well. A second F-11, DT-29, lightsaber, Pike, force push... to name a few that hover in the .50-2.00 range. the DH-17 is a little more expensive, but is great for starting out as it only costs 1 resource to play.
I helped a friend build a really good Kylo/Vader(Spirit of Rebellion) deck once using mostly starter deck stuff and a few cards I traded him (he pulled a One With the Force that he didn't need because he doesn't play heroes, so I traded him both Vaders and a bunch of other cards for it). It's one of my favorite decks to play, and you can find tons of good decklists for it on these forums!
My wife wanted to try it as well so she plays heroes and i play villains. I know unlike the LCG you don't have to play LS vs DS but just to get a feel for it that is what we're doing. I am thinking about picking up a second starter for each side so I can run Kylo/2 Stormtrooper and two die Rey/ two die Finn decks. I figured thats how most people start.

I was tempted to do this as well after my daughter and I had fun with several intro games playing only 1 starter each. I ultimately decided I like opening packs better and luckily daughter agrees as well. Either option works. It just depends on your style.

Finn is not the greatest character, he's a bit over costed...but is great with starter decks. Having two force throws(still one of my favs), mind probe and F-11's helps round out your decks nicely so you can't go wrong with two extra starters.
I bought a few more packs and got three new characters: Padawan, Count Dooku, General Veers.

Nice! Dooku is one of my favorite characters to play. His ability makes him a tank, and it will frustrate your opponent to no end. And he has a lot of partners if you go mono blue: Asajj for now, but both Quinlan Vos and Seventh Sister will pair very nicely when Empire at War comes out.
So my two decks now both have 30 cards and three characters. I only got one Dooku, Veers, and Padawan die. My Starting characters are:
Dooku (11)/Kylo (10)/ Stormtrooper (7) (28)
Finn (13)/Rey (9)/Padawan (8) (30)
How do you store your extra dice?
I use a cheap tackle box, I think mine was under $5--Bring a couple of dice to the store to make sure they fit. The new starter tomorrow might be another good addition, I know I'm getting at least one.
I saw the new two player box but $60 for two is a little much for me right now. I am mosty getting 2-4 packs a time.
