Ok, so historically we've had a few tile types in each set. For the most part, they're adhered to 4 main types: desert, forest, merc interior, and Imperial interior. We've had variations on this (such as the Bespin interior merging with Merc interior pretty skillfully) and complete changes of forumla, like in Hoth's snow tiles.
Looking at HotE, it appears we're gonna see some really varied tiles, so I'm trying to figure out how these work.
From what I can tell, there seems to be only two types of tiles- interior and exterior. Exterior seems to be the easiest to spot, as it just looks like streets and landing platforms. Notice how well the ends of the tiles seem to match the piece as a whole- it may be a slightly different shade of grey, but thematically it feels like it still fits. Essentially, these maps feel like a parking lot.
On the other hand, all interior tiles seem to be connected by a grey or cream colored entryway. For example:
On the one hand, I really like this. The entryways allow for some really original and drastically different looking pieces. The Jedi council chambers, the pink room, the room with the sentry droids- any combination of those three make for a map that's bound to be more colorful than almost any map we've ever seen before, and it's all done by just finding a common denominator and sticking with it. On the other, I'm a little worried those cream entryways might look a little distracting on a full map.
Also, are we expecting for there to really only be two tile types, then- city interior and city exterior? And can we expect each double-sided tile to have a representative of each tile type? Or might we get some more forest, desert, etc?
