Leading Shots Question

By Jamborinio, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Can you reroll your dice one at a time - thereby seeing what you get as you roll them - or do you have to decide which dice you're going to reroll before rerolling?

Cheers

You have to reroll all the dice you want at once

Slight correction... you have to complete a reroll from a source BUT you can reroll a die as many times as you have sources of a reroll

Eg you can use veteran gunners to reroll every die then a CF token

or spend an accuracy (removing the die from the pool), used the CF token, then use veteran gunners to reroll the pool

(which is why bomber command was errated to only allow a single instance to be used per attack) ps the source of the reroll will say how many you may reroll up to e.g. Swarm = 1, vet gunners = entire pool, CF token = 1

Bomber command center received an errata because it was much too easy, and much too cheap to enable all your bombers to get multiple rerolls.

And some, as hinted, are musts and not mays , should you choose to use their effects. (To clarify that, I don't mean must use the effect, I mean, rather, sometimes you are told ALL, and sometimes you are asked HOW MANY?)

Leading shots is a may .. Its a "HOW MANY, SIR?" - You look at the dice, and you decide how many, up tothe amount, and then you reroll that many. You do not have to choose a specific die if you not want to. This allows you, basically, to 'fix' bad dice and keep good dice you're happy with.

Veteran Gunners, for example, is a must if you choose to use it. "NOSSIR, ALL OF THEM. PICK THOSE DICE UP." If you choose to use it, you must reroll all dice, good or bad, double-hits or misses. You get no choice in the matter. The only control you have, is that if you have spent your accuracy dice to lock down enemy defense tokens, those dice have been spent so they no longer exist to be rerolled... So make sure you spend 'em before you do that, because otherwise, they're rerolled along with all of the other dice.

There is no limit to the amount of times a single die may be rerolled, but each source of rerolls at this point, only grants you a reroll once.

For example, Ordnance experts allows you to reroll your black dice. However , you can't just keep rerolling with Ordnance experts to get what you want, because Ordnance Experts "While..." wording, means you can only do it once per attack.

But nothing stops you from rerolling from multiple sources, as long as those sources are distinct.

For example, you could throw your dice. Use veteran gunners to reroll them all because they were crap. Then spend a defense token to use Darth Vader (Commander) to reroll the dice that didn't turn up good. Then reroll a single die a third time by the concentrate fire token you had collected. Rerolls can be rerolled, as long as the effect is a different source.

(Bomber command was initially determined to be a different source because each upgrade was different, but that was errata'd to now state only once. However, you can still make an enemy reroll their dice multiple times if you have multiple Targeting Scramblers nearby... But the only crazy guy out there to regularly run 2 interdictiors is me :D )

Fundamentally though, on those upgrades (such as leading shots) that allow you to specify the amount of dice, only let you make a choice once . You can't pick up one die, reroll it due to leading shots, and then decide then and there if you're rerroll any more due to that single leading shots... That would count as your decision. One die. So you effectively have to nominate how many you are going to do, and throw those dice all at once. Once you pick tha tdice up, its going to be rerolled, you don't get to put it back down because one of the dice you picked up and rerolled happend to get the ACC you wanted.

What Dras said is especially important when your opponent is using Ordnance Experts to fish for a black crit.

I was looking for an exhaustive explanation of multiple rerolls for a friend, so I stumbled on this discussion where Drasnighta, as always, turned with mastery, logical reasoning into something simple and immediate! English is not my mother language, but I have to admit I learned more by reading the forum's explanations in English, than with manuals in Italian! Thank you guys!
