Make my own tokens/dials/etc. or buy stuff from Broken Egg and the like?

L5R has always brought out my artsy/crafty side. I recently made my own custom playmat and now I've started trying to figure out how to make my own tokens and dials. It's been a little problematic so far, but I think it'll be nice when I get it figured out, but I wonder sometimes if it would just be easier if I'd just buy the $50 acrylic tokens from someone like Broken Egg instead. I am likely to spend at least that much on materials, time and effort to do my own, but I won't have anything unique. Thoughts?

I think the Broken Egg stuff is gorgeous, but ultimately I think it's more fun to make my own stuff sometimes. Then again, the barrier for entry might be high if you've never used Photoshop or Illustrator before.

I got my tokens made at ponoko.com and they were pretty cheap and easy - they only wanted an eps file to cut from.

Ponoko is not complicated to do, for laser cutting. They also are often super helpful if you ask them, as well as having a bunch of FAQs and Tips. I did end up spending more on tokens than I would have from Broken Egg (Though I ended up with probably more than enough for 2 people, though not technically!). My main warning is that without your own laser cutter, it will not be cheaper to make your own than buy them from someone.

Also Inkscape is free where the two listed above are not for making svg/eps files.
