Best Subsystem?

By CitizenKeen, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Sorry if this has been asked before - search isn't working for me and my Google-fu is weak.

What's the best subsystem added in a supplement? EotE/AoR/FaD. I know "all the books are good", et cetera. But I was flipping through Forged in Battle and I saw the "Battle Scars" system, and I thought "****, that's cool."

Forgetting talent trees and specializations and such. What supplements are the best with regards to the systems they add?

Thanks in advance!

Well, that's the problem, isn't it? Because it's not about the "best". There is what you need, and whether the system delivers.

What I've needed (among others) is:

  • a way to run a business...count one for Far Horizons
  • more insight into social checks...count two for Far Horizons, and one for Desperate Allies
  • the economics of smuggling...count one for Fly Casual
  • how to handle investigations and crime mysteries...count one for No Disintegrations
  • how to handle urban environments along with investigations...count one for Endless Vigil

I haven't needed mass combat, but that doesn't mean I think the squad rules or mass combat rules in the other sourcebooks aren't as good or potentially useful.

That's way too tough to say. Really depends on the thrust of the campaign. The battle scars thing is cool, my guys love it. Crating can be a boon or curse depending on the nature of the game I think.

I mean, that's fair. Obviously 'best' is subjective.

I guess I was just unaware that there was more to the Career books than just more Specializations and Races and Gear. Battles Scars , for example, aren't Soldier specific - that's a really cool addition to any campaign (in my mind).

Thanks for the feedback!

The rules used to run the race in Jewel of Yavin are really fun and a great addition to a racing focused adventure or a story that relies on it repeatedly.

For one of my players, the sabacc rules are best. :D

Wish I could remember where those are in the books...

I get the most mileage out of squad/squadron rules. They help me keep the Bad Guy alive long enough to run away. Otherwise they drop way too fast, unless you use major cheese to keep them alive.

But again, it depends on the thrust of your game.

Very true. Those are great for actual battles, but less useful in the small personal tiffs often seen in Edge.

EotE, Under a Black Sun (free pdf download). pg.27

Even then, useful if a Vigo/Pirate Captain/Bounty Hunter has a few henchman to cover his retreat.

Personally, I love the lightsaber and armor crafting rules from Endless Vigil and Keeping the Peace .

Suns of Fortune (in one of the modular encounters)

Edited by Jedi Ronin

I love the heroes journey stuff f rom Keeping the Peace, however the best info from a supplement are the urban settings rules and tables from Endless Vigil!

Man, I love the fluff on Jedi stuff in NoP.
