X-Wing 101: S&V Article

By Sparklelord, in X-Wing

Not the preview we're looking for, but here it is.

What I find most interesting is that Attanni Mindlink isn't on all three ships.

Kris says, "yeah I considered it on the TPV instead of the Scout, in which case I'd have thrown Determination on the Scout..." (paraphrasing heavily)

Say what now? Considering capping Mindlink at 2 ships with another, different 1 point EPT as the third (or none altogether for the bid)? That sounds suspicious...

Cardboard of Y-Wing is rebel, and Firespray is imperial... every. time.

The 2 copies of Attani are due to the $101 limit. He is working with what comes in the box.

Good call.

"They can be treated unfairly as a middle-of-the-road faction that sits in-between Rebellion's "shields and synergies" playstyle and the Imperial aces, with their individually powerful abilities and repositioning."

treated unfairly? Hear that phrase way too often these days...

Do they really suggest to buy a toilet seat?

To do what? Play against myself because everyone hates me using an ugly fat turreted ship without any Star Wars background just for its OPness?

I have to say that this isn't a squad I was at all expecting to see in a 101 article, but I'm considering running it at game night this week. It looks very interesting to fly! The Contracted Scout gives me pause, but at least it's not a torp scout or sloop-n-poop scout.

Who would have thought anybody would have ever suggested buying an M-3A interceptor? Three cheers for the new version of the Heavy "scyck" title!

Quick everyone! Buy toilet seats! BUY THEM ALL. I'm sure FFG isn't trying to clear them out before they nerf them into oblivion!

That is a fair point

in order to have attani on 3 ships you need 2 jm5ks.
The 101 articles are intended to help people get an idea what to start out with. Buying two largeship boxes does not sound like a way to get into the game with a super low budget

Not a bad list imho but you can build a Brobots list for 101$ :P

For some reason I will advice theses ships because you can quickly equip your ships without buying more :

Kihraxz, M3a1, protectorat, quadjumper and episode 7 core set for 99.75$

.

I'm gonna buy a cr@p load of toilet seats.

Rawr.

I forgot that was a major premise of all of this article series. I'll echo @Tbetts94 and say good call.

... should've recommended to buy a third copy of Mindlink on eBay lol, roughly $8-10, how's that for a "Wait... what?" moment

"treated unfairly"?

Scum deserves all the hate they get, it's a bantha poo Doo faction with poo Doo pilots and poo Doo everything!

Back before Dengaroo was nerfed, my brother took that list to a fairly large store championship (30+ players) and went UNDEFEATED despite never flying the list in the first place!

"Unfairly" my foot...

Other than that, interesting article.

I'm not saying this means anything (though I think it does), but Kris' list will remain legal if the rumored FAQ is real (I think it is).

I think that he did a good job getting a cheap version of a powerful list. Scum is probably the cheapest faction right now for a beginner - buy another Jumpmaster, and you can build a Dengar/Tel, Dengar/Fenn, and plenty of other stuff using the expansions he picked.

But it's also the most boring faction right now, because most of scum does actually fit his description of fun ships that do funky stuff but aren't super effective at winning. The Jumpmaster the Protectorate, and maybe now the Scurrg kinda ruined scum for everybody else. I don't really see scum even hit the table now if they don't have one of those ships. Which is too bad, because I remember all the fun stuff that could be done right when scum came out, with HWKs, Y-Wings, Z-95s, StarVipers, G-1As, YV-666s, etc.

But yep, now scum is so overpowered that it's just boring. I guess it's because FFG bought into the whole Clone Wars series' "cult of the bounty hunter", where anything that might be a bounty hunter is instantly more powerful than Darth Vader.

I'm pretty confident the P1 on a scout is due to the upcoming nerf.

Also, Stealth Device Fenn is such a riddiculous idea I actually want to do it :D

no but seriously, stop the 101 series. It's garbage advice (because of the riddiculous $$$ constraint, the writers are doing their best), for 20 bucks more you get MUCH better value per dollar

Can you though?
Core Set $40
IGx2 $60

All of the good upgrades for an IG list come in the StarViper and Most Wanted, trust me I looked :D

I would also point out that the context of the "treated unfairly" quote seems to be lost.
When X-Wing was released the two factions had very distinct play styles, Rebels had Shields and Synergies whilst Imperials had Individually Powerful aces and Better Dials and Re-positioning.
Scum sits in the middle of both of these with some ships that have shields, some synergies, ships with powerful abilities and some ships with good dials. I think it is unfair to think of them as the middle of the road faction because when you add it all up you don't get a Rebel Light or Imperial Light feeling list you get something else entirely that is designed to screw over your opponent and sacrifice ships and hit-points on the way to doing it.

Word Counts are a thing thought so maybe I just didn't explain it well enough.

:P

Calling Scum middle of the road IS unfair treatment though. They're definitely not that...

While I do agree partly, I think you are viewing the faction a little too much through the eyes of a forumite and hence someone who saw a lot of netlists.

I think that even at the most high tier level, Palob, Assaj, tlt ywings, the slaver and bossk are still very playable. Talonbane and Guri soon will be too. That leaves about the same number of options of pilots than in the other factions, if not higher.

And I am speaking strictly high tier here. On store champ level there are a lot more.

Kinda. I'm glue a bunch together and make the most OP epic ship ever. Ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaa.

X-Wing 101

Lesson 1: Use Scum ships. They are so much better than the other two factions.

Now when do I get my article FFG?

Anyone made an actual toilet seat that looks like a jumpmaster? Only problem would be people intentionally %!$$ing or $#!%%ing on it.

Yup. Windu was too unfair to Palpetine:
"He's too dangerous to be left alive!"

I thought the Jedi were peaceful, just, and honest. They DESERVED to get wiped out.
