Force Friday II Annoucement

By futil, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Couple of Star Wars game hasn't get annoucement during the GenCon.
The Three Missing number in Xwing might get us a surprise.

But my bet is more that LFL (Lucas Film Limited / Disney) ask to set the annoucement of SW game on the same day regarding Episode 8 or something related to Rebels.

Has we just get a big box, a small wave should be arriving (like the last droid wave).
On Rebel side : Where are Ezra / Kanan ??? They exist in many other FFG game.
Empire : Kalus and a Spy / leader update ???
Scum : Azmorigan / Hondo with non combat ability ?

Also think a FAQ is approching.

The In Flight Report hinted that something big is coming for Armada. Needing to wait points to being related to the new movie.

I would not be surprised if the same applies to X-Wing.

I don't see the same for Imperial Assault though - new figures and groups are added more judiciously and with much more background knowledge than what an unseen movie could give. At most we could see the next not-Han-Solo-movie-related wave revealed.

I was thinking a new core set for IA over Christmas might explain why they moved Heart of the Empire to September when big boxes were released over Christmas usually. But that's probably wishful thinking. My wallet will be glad if we don't get anything over Christmas  We'll find out in a couple days...

Yeah, I don't expect anything IA at this Force Friday.

Seems to be likely that they'll skew more toward the Sequel Trilogy, and IA seems (at least for now) firmly planted in the OT.

I really don't want IA to go into the sequel VII-IX trilogy just yet. I know it's inevitable, and I guess Kylo Ren villain figure would be cool, but the longer they can keep it all in the civil war era the better.

Agreed. I don't know how much longer IA will last, but it could be a while, even with just the OT. There's just so much stuff they can cover still- Roue One, Rebels, books, comics, Solo movie, etc. I think bringing in creatures and units from the prequels (like the Nexu or Clawdite) is a really cool idea, too. I don't see any reason to start sequel trilogy IA until the entire new trilogy concludes.

Had we gotten an Endor-themed expansion instead of HOTE, I'd have been more open to the possibility that we'd be getting a Sequel Trilogy re-skin of the game with a re-themed core set.

However, the OT seems incomplete at this point to me so I'd think the Sequel Trilogy re-skin may not happen this quickly (but I feel it's going to eventually happen).

I'm still pretty skeptical of an Endor box. I think we might get Endor-type units (speeder bikes, scout troopers, etc) but I don't think we'll get a campaign on Endor. My prediction has always been a single mission or two on Endor, along with maybe a more extensive coverage of forested or beachy planets like Kashyyyk and Scarif. But I guess we'll see (the mere suggestion of hearing about more content someday makes me excited).

So far we are two days in and have two Star Wars articles on the site so maybe we might be in for Star Wars articles all week with anything big being announced on Friday, like the new FF product along with the X-wing ships if they aren't part of that FF product.

Yeah, Force Friday is all about EP8 stuff. I expect (and hope) for nothing for IA.

It's mostly likely something for X-wing and Destiny.

Yeah, not a campaign solely focused on Endor but at least with a few Endor missions so we can get the Ewoks (regardless of people's like/dislike of them, they are iconic). Scout troopers can be standard in any non-urban environment so considering we have an urban-centric big box in HOTE, I'm imagining a more wilderness themed small box that draws on Endor for inspiration. Kasshyyk works extremely well (especially considering it is still under Imperial occupation in the new canon timeline based on the Aftermath books) but Scarif seems like a stretch to me considering it's been blown up by the time the OT trilogy picks up steam.

I do see the Shore Troopers as a stand-alone reinforcement wave that would bring a Scarif mission into IA. Part of me wants to wait to do a HOTE campaign to see how many pre-ANH reinforcement packs will be released to help preserve the head-cannon timeline I can't seem to shake.

Given that Timelines are no longer a thing I'd be okay with a sequel trilogy A/V wave similar to Wave 7 (Obi-Wan, Greedo, GI). I mean, at this point why not in throw Rey, Kylo, and... Benecio Del Toro, I guess?

I know this is off topic but while I quite like Del Toro as an actor he's such a unique looking guy that, whenever I see him in a film now, I automatically go "oh that's Del Toro"

It's terrible for immersion so, seeing him involved in Ep VIII is a worry for me.

That could be. Part of why I figured Scarif would work is because it ties the tiles together.

Scarif- Beach

Endor- Forest

Kashyyyk- Beaches and forests

But it wouldn't work as well for the OT, at least not the Citadel. HotE does show we may be getting more pre-OT stuff, though.

Yeah, totally agreed. It's working out pretty well for our main group. We ran Core last winter, and ran Hoth this summer (finishing this weekend, hopefully). I'm gonna take a break until at least the HotE stuff is finished painted before beginning Jabba this fall. I expect we won't get to HotE until next spring, at the earliest- and considering how my Rebels are starting to show some interest in the minicampaigns, too (they're starting to realize that they're not likely to ever pick the grey side missions on their own) it may well be over a year before we actually start HotE.

Wait, wait, wait.

Consider this (completely off the wall conspiracy theory):

Up to this point, IA had a pretty standard release schedule: small box, large box, small box, large box. HOTE kind of threw that out.

BUT...

What if the plan all along was to release a small box Endor/forest themed small box to coincide with the release of the app. Then HOTE was designed to act as a book-end to the OT era to round out the experience (because deep down inside the designers wanted to make a Shadows of the Empire expansion but this was the best they could do within Disney's current canon scope).

The small box got delayed due to the app taking longer than expected so to bridge the gap in releases, FFG pushed HOTE ahead of the Endor set so the app could still release with the (now) last OT release for IA.

As such, there will be a big announcement on FFII introducing...

FIRST ORDER ASSAULT , an Imperial Assault game!

I think that a delay for the App could have effected the release schedule, but I'm not sure that's how it would've happened. I think that if anything is getting released with the app, it would be a reinforcement wave, not a boxed wave- no reason to introduce a competing campaign at the same time as the app.

Store owners who have ordered this mystery product say it's $30.

My guess is it's a new starter for Destiny themed around The Last Jedi.

I think you're right. FFG is most likely going to release something that casual fans can buy at the store and not have to purchase another box to buy. This means either a stand alone or a core set.
