Are TIE Defender Ds a good fit in the meta?

We had a guy win our local store championship with Expertise Vessery, VI Backdraft and Juking Omega Leader. The only thing hurting D's IMO opinion is that they are expensive. Maybe with the new missile/torp releases D's will get some play. Ryad with Cruises can be potent as she can 4-5K all day long. Marrek being paired up with a Harpoon carrier too. I like D's, you just have to have in your brain when your opponent will think you will K turn and dont do it. Predictability is the death of Defenders.

Maarek is actually a pretty solid Cruise Missile carrier. You get 5 dice with a TL + Chips for that delicious crit, which will wreck stuff.

This what I am saying, if Maarek shoots a cruise at a target with the Harpooned! condition on it, that ship could be in for a bad time.

Jam/Ion/Flechette once Gunboat drops.

Triple PS1 defenders seems like a neat idea until you remember that defenders are SUPER predictable and easy to dodge.

I played this build last night two two ions and one tractor beam and that was absolutely the case. Red 1 and 2 turns are tough on a ship that is already strapped for actions as it is.

all these suggestions for missile Tie/Ds and here I am wondering what would have been if Tie/D allowed you to perform a post-cannon attack with any other weapon (as opposed to primary only)

I've got a couple seasonal kit tourneys in with this list now:
Vessery/TieD/Ruthlessness/Ion Cannon
Carnor Jax/PTL/AT/RGT/TC
Omega Leader/Comm Relay/Juke

I've only lost a few games with it but Jax/Ruthlessness Vessery is *really* conflicting playstyles. I had to pass up on a few shots with Vessery so as not to kill Jax or OL in a couple of the games. One game it actually cost me. Ion Cannon Vessery is spot on though in the meta. I changed it up a little and tried VI Vessery instead of Ruthlessness Vessery and played 2 games against Nym/Miranda. A single TIE/D just doesn't seem fast enough to actually catch one of these guys. If Miranda thinks she'll be in arc she just slams out of it (or into you), and Nym can advanced sensor boost doing the 3 or 4 straight and also almost always avoid an arc. Meanwhile, the other TLT ship is tearing you to shreds. It was rough. So, back to the drawing board for me.

This seems feasible for burning down some two ship lists with low green dice.

Rexler Brath — TIE Defender 37
Veteran Instincts 1
Cruise Missiles 3
Guidance Chips 0
Ship Total: 41
Maarek Stele (TIE Defender) — TIE Defender 35
Veteran Instincts 1
Cruise Missiles 3
Guidance Chips 0
Ship Total: 39
"Countdown" — TIE Striker 20
Adaptive Ailerons 0
Ship Total: 20

Then I think people would have been screaming for a TIE/D nerf alongside the X7.

Don't ever build a TIE/D without a cannon.

Listen to this man, he knows his stuff.

Nah. Would still have been way too costly.

That wasn't any deep insight, to be fair.

You can bring 3 PS1s with Ion Cannons but that is 99 points. I think this would be a better build.

After playing my Hux list a bunch:

33 Omnicron w/ Adv Sensors, Tractor Beam, Hux, Captive.
66 (2x) Delta w/ Ion Cannon, TIE/D.

I've decided that as great as Hux is, he's still inferior to Palpatine. I was also having trouble convincing some of my better opponents that they should just beat up on the shuttle for 2-3 turns while my Deltas melted them. The new list is looking to increase the shuttle's threat a little:

32 Omnicron w/ Collision Detector, Tractor Beam, Palpatine, Ion Projectors.
68 (2x) Delta w/ Ion Cannon, Mk2 Engines, TIE/D.

There's more incentive to kill the shuttle first (Palp), but if my opponent guns for the Deltas, they have 1 auto evade from Palp and a focus token, rather than just 2 focus. Ion Projector will also scare off some ships and helps in the Rebel Biggs Jank matchup. Another bonus was I could afford Mk2 Engines on the two Deltas to help against stress (something they can struggle with).

Just a thought- what about Flechette Cannons? There are several ways to bring more stress control into a list, thus making it less important to center the list around the TiE/D, instead using it as a potent free asset to Combine with what you see fit.

Yes, stress is in a lot of ways less effective than ion. But double or triple stress potential every turn (rebel captive, Ren's shuttle etc.) is still touching a lists in a lot of wrong places.

What would happen if the TIE/D Title would be errated to allow all secondary weappons (with 3 or less points) or may be cannons and rockets (to outrule snap shot).
You could have real hefty double taps with the cruise missile, Maarek might like the adv. homing missile. And if you want to spend only one point you could have tracers to target lock for the primary attack.

They had one job, which was to swap the point cost for the two titles..
