Well they were locked in the basement with no internet from what I hear. **** shame.

Not quite...there was internet, but wi-fi access was restricted to staff and vendors (so they could run credit card purchases). If they opened up that wifi, it would have been overwhelmed. We were in one of the largest ballrooms in that hotel, but it's so far down the cell access gets spotty.

Way to go Ron!

The Armada Nationals were a ton of fun. I play pretty casually, and haven't purchased a new ship since the Assault Frigate, so I had an older list.

I played 3 AF2Bs w/ Gunnery Team, one had Ackbar. Then 3 VCX and 5 2400s for 400 points even. I brought Most Wanted, Fire Lanes, and Sensor Net. This is the "I don't really have to remember what my upgrades do" list. :) I won a store champ the week before with it to knock the rust off.

I did really well at first, even beating the Hammerhead swarm (barely!), but Kwak reminded me what it's like to be on the receiving end of a solid beating. A 5-click ISD can pretty much point at anything it wants and oneshot Assault Frigates. After that, I realized I had to win really big to get back into top 8, and I took a bunch of risks that didn't pan out. Still, all my games were fun, and the judging and TOing were solid.

Just back home from Nationals.

I had a blast. I did not do as well as I had hoped but 3 of my loses came down to leaving an ISD at 1hp (**** that motti). I definitely need to make some list adjustments but I can not wait to play some more.

It was great to meet a lot of people from these forums. All my opponents were great, TOing and Judging was great, overall a great experience and I am definitely working on getting out to Worlds and absolutely nova next year if nationals are there again.

Some Take aways:

  • you dont need sloane and boarding troopers typically
  • Motti is still most likely the top Imperial Admiral due to point cost and always being relevant. I seriously left 3 ISDs at less than 3 HP after triple tapping and just couldn't finish them off before they engineered back up.
  • Maneuverability is still king, i will start working on Moff JJ
  • If i put external racks on my raider instead f flechettes my games would have gone much better as well.
  • I felt I played well, but clearly was out of practice. that being said my list could use some fine tuning
  • I really wish they let you play thursday and friday, i know why they don't but man i was so amped after the first heat.
  • 5 rounds of Armada is as rough as 5 round of WMH, I am glad I have some many wmh tournaments under my belt, but i was exhausted into Saturday after the event.

Matt Lalonde
Rieekan Aces ( Admo / Yavaris / 3x Transports)

It gives me a kind of minor victory that I lost by only 40-50ish points vs the national champion :D

As an addendum, there were a lot of really good lists this time that directly competed with that archetype. Also, the final cut was Swiss rounds instead of winner take all, so that h2ad am impact on final placement.

World Champ is Canadian...

US National champ is Canadian...

Both used a list that was developed in Canada...

As the husband to a smokin' hot Canadian, and the father to two kids who say "Dad, I'm half American but 100% Canadian" I couldn't be prouder.

As an American, I gotta say "WHAT THE HECK, 'Murica?!?!?! You gonna let a buncha toque-wearing, doubledouble-drinking, beaver-loving, ZED95-pronouncing, igloo-abiding lumberjacks show you up like that?

Whatever. I haven't cut down a tree in years.

Haha... well, Canada, ask Matt himself, he still needed American tools* to win!

*He borrowed my range ruler and maneuver tool... the same ones that won GenCon 2015 and US Nats 2016. ;-D

To make up for my "blunder," I did have to enforce a missed opportunity on Matt (he forgot to set all his dials) but, to his credit, he powered through to win!

To add to the Canadiana (it is Canada's 150th birthday this year), the squadron component is now to be called the "Royal Canadian Air Force" aka RCAF - Corran, Luke, Dutch, Ten Numb, Dagger, Gold, and 2 VCX.

Zed-95. Ah ha ha. I'm not sure I've ever laughed so hard at this forum. Not because saying Zed is wrong, but just because it would have never occurred to me that anyone would call it that.

This is coming from a guy guy who listened to McKay call them Zed-PMs throughout Stargate Atlantis.
