Boba Vader Kylo

By Boom Owl, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I am on a mission to find the best possible combo of Vader, Boba, and Kylo Ren. This is what I have so far.

Mini-Aplha Strike options with Cruise + Reliable Kylo Crits. Swap in Bomblet Gen for Boba to get most from rear arc catch me if you can tactics.

you have a 4 point bid for Vader which will assure you choose initative, which is good for Vader, but I would switch Squad Leader for Intensity/Predator/Expertise/Juke, Intensity allows vader to boost/barrel roll out of arcs and still have a focus/evade (depends on wether he's getting attacked that turn), Predator helps vader hit in case he rolls any blanks, Expertise allows him to save his focus for defense, Juke is good because you'll always be evading if you're getting shot at, and so, it helps give a little more punch to your attack by either forcing your opponent to spend a focus, or cancel an evade if he doesn't have one, it's a matter of preference here. I think Squad leader isn't as great on Vader as it used to be, because now he wants those actions on focus/evade or evade and arc dodge move, because of all the damage on the table, but without it Boba get's a little fragile sence with it you could Kylo/Evade... oh well, try it, see if you like, if you don't change something, and try again. Best of luck. :)

If you are doing this just for funsies, then cool! Give it a go, but if you were considering using a squad like this competitively, then I am sorry to say that its just not going to work well.

The main problem is the action economy. Using squad leader to 'lend' boba an action to get the kylo ball rolling is just not a good solution, imho. If you do, then your opponent will target Vader (since in order to use squad leader, your ships will be close together and therefore both in arc of enemy shooting-----not where they want to be!). If you don't use squad leader, then Boba either has no token (because you used kylo) or he does have a token, but no kylo (and then what's the point?!?)

So I think the best solution is to put Kylo somewhere else:

Boba Fett w/ VI, andrasta, bomblet & engine = 47

Vader w/ adapt, x-1, ATC & engine = 34

Scimitar w/ title & kylo = 19

100

With both of your 'heavy-hitters' at PS10, you are in a better position to use the bomblet generator and/or to escape firing arcs. Since Boba will use his back arc more often anyway, you won't really miss the Mangler cannon. Besides, you should be able to generate Kylo crits with Vader's ATC (after Boba shoots first to strip defensive tokens). Best of all, you add a third, 'biggs-like' target to the list that will help keep Boba & Vader alive longer. And frankly, in a list of this nature, you really only need a single Kylo crit for that shuttle to have 'successfully done its job'.

@blade_mercurial

Doing this for funsies since i like all 3 characters but also as a more interesting way of learning how to fly Vader who i will eventually pair with RAC/Palp/Kylo competitively.

Nice ideas! Some slight variations. Intel Agent to get the most from Bobas and Vaders PS Abilities. Manglar to help with landing Kylo. Rec Spec to balance Boba's off/def.

Could make room for rebel captive on the shuttle which might make sense :)

Found it:

Expertise on Boba allows you to reliably get Kylo in with Mangler cannon.

3 Cruise Missiles between Vader and Boba help you push through dmg early on Biggs BS.

Vader at PS11 demands you fly perfectly or die.

Once Kylo is done pushing through PS0s etc, Boba can fly away for multiple turns taking TLs and getting 3 dice shots in with Expertise reliably.

Or stay aggressive and go for the Cruise Missile shots.

I really really like this build.

Fun. Not Ultra-Competitive. But can hang when flown right and the dice start rolling

I know it's not really what you were looking for, but when I tried to have a stab at this I decided that all the toys I were loading these ships up with were pretty disposable (Mangler Cannon & Expertise = A Score To Settle & 8pts). I wound up stripping them all down and having room for a decent third ship.

You could put Lt Colzet in to do blinded shenanigans but I went for Pure Sabacc...

  • Darth Vader - Adapatability, Advanced Targeting Computer, TIE/x1, Engine Upgrade (34)
  • Boba Fett - A Score To Settle, Kylo Ren (42)
  • Pure Sabacc - Adaptability, Lightweight Frame, Adaptive Ailerons (24)

Slightly necroing, but I played a game with that last night (Boba added Slave I & LRS) and it actually worked pretty well.

I'm sure it's mainly for casual but it all fit together and they synergised nicely, with Kylo & Vader blinding things that were about to shoot at Sabacc. Played against my friend's casual list (Norra, Keyan, Jess) and ripped it apart in just a few turns. I've never actually flown Pure Sabacc before - that guy is MEAN!
