If you don't purchase them.
I really want the cards and to use those ISDs, but I don't like the paint job at all. How can I fly a 3 ISD list without purchasing the Chimera & another ISD pack (for a total of four ISDs)?
*EDIT*Also, don't want to paint or hire to paint (I can paint due to many years of WHFB, but don't have time or money due to the same reason--grad school).
Chimera pack ISDs are useless

Maybe just repaint it?
I imagine the ship cards and upgrade cards will make their way to eBay pretty shortly after release, but the individual component costs are going to be astronomical compared to just buying the box.
If the paint job really bothers you, you can always repaint it yourself, trade it to someone for a generic ISD, or buy a "ship only" ISD on eBay.

Not sure what type it is, but if you really hate the ISD paint job you can repaint it easily.
Bathe it in a tub of 70+ percent isopropyl alcohol for a few minutes, and scrub off all the default paint with a toothbrush. It's easy! (note: this ONLY applies to the default FFG paint, anything you apply will be much more difficult to fix)
Spray it with a basic gray primer spray paint. Your local FLGS probably has guys playing games like Warhammer or similar who can help you do this if you're not used to it. You just want a light coat that will not obscure any details of the model. Before you spray, either remove the clear plastic piece on the bottom or tape over it to keep it transparent.
Take a decent sized hobby brush, and dip it in the preferred default model paint of your choice. Wipe it nearly dry on a piece of paper towel. Then scrub it vigorously along the outer armor shell of the model. you'll see that it gets the top layer of whatever it hits while leaving the recesses your gray base color to pick out all the panels for awesome detail.
If you want to, repaint the interior your engine nacelles with a white undercoat, then light blue, light orange, or light pink (mix with white then water down).
If you want to add an extra detail like a ship name or design, now's your chance.
And bam, instant fully-painted custom ISD paint job!
It comes with 6 ship sized cards. plus 2 new squadrons, and some nice upgrades to boot.
I'm really not fond of getting the same model, but printing proxies and stuff is too much hassle for this amount of material.
Really though, wish it was a diff model. So deflated by another ISD.

What else were they going to do?
If I had to complain, it's that I wish they changed the bridge out to an ISD-1. But for a repack, this is an excellent buy.

I needed a symbol for each ship since even I can't instantly read aurabesh.

easy solution, buy the set sell the model. It's a sweet repaint, there may be several people who'd like to snag the model for less than the full expansion. You get all the upgrades and cards, and make back 15-20 bucks from the set.
First world problems here....you want to run 3 of the new ISD's but hate the paint job but won't paint it yourself. Either paint it, buy or trade for a 4th ISD, or get over the paint job. Those are your choices as complaining about the paint job isn't a solution.
Edited by BMcDonald7Yeah im not really seeing an actual problem here

Equally, bet you could easily trade the model. Find someone who wants more than one Chimera, swap yours for their standard model. Everyone's a winner!
Same here, not really interested in a second ISD, even less in an ISD with an strange custom paint job. However the cards are nice and I am a Thrawn fan since he was invented.

Good eye! This was my first serious effort at freehanding a symbol or logo.

I think you are missing that my main point was clickbait and silliness.

I'll probably repaint mine anyway if you want to trade ceej.
Click bait. Well played good sir, well played.
i love the Chimera paint job. I wish i could repaint it as I have always hated the off colored panels on the imperial ships. I may (MAY) try to mask off the chimera logo and repaint it but I have a feeling I either wont, or ill commission someone to do it for me.
as for buying the upgrades? yea ebay that week will have it. ive learned that if i want upgrades but not another ship, just buy the ship. i have bought 2 more VSDs worth of upgrades from the VSD when I should have just bought 2 more VSDs.
I'm comtemplating on swapping it for a standard ISD paint job. I'm sure I won't have a problem finding takers on that. What I'm more concerned with is that it doesn't come with ISD-I and ISD-II ship cards... So in order to run 3 of those you have to have 3 regular exp packs, plus the Chimera pack... I'd much rather that Chimera come with 2 refits each and a set of ISD1/2s for itself.

But at that point you invalidate one of the points in buying a standard ISD, new players will have few points on why to buy it, the thing about this pack is that it's completely new*
*the cards at least

Perhaps. It depends on whether or not you think the Chimera is a "fix" for the ISD, or a new option for the ISD. Referencing their X Wing product line, the Guns for Hire "scum aces" pack came with the fix for both the Starviper and the Kihraxz. It came with two sets of StarViper Mk.II titles and 2 Vaksai titles, even though it only came with 1 model of each. These were the fixes that made those models viable again (er... they never were viable, but they should have been!). However, the individual pilots are still unique to each expansion pack.
So apply that logic to Armada, the ship cards are like generic x wing pilots (basic stats for that specific chassis). The titles for the ships are like the named unique pilots (unique abilities that only one at a time can be fielded. Must be applied to that specific chassis). And the x wing title fixes are like the ship refit cards (you can't leave home without it. You will be hampering yourself by running this chassis without it). I suppose you could make the case that since these Armada refit ship cards are analogous to X wing title cards, then the answer becomes "you'd be stupid to ever run an ISD1/2 when you could run a refit" and therefore the exclusion of the ISD1/2 ship cards from the Chimera pack is because FFG plans on the Chimera refits effectively nullifying the ISD1/2 ship cards.
And if that's the case, then you'll have the same reason as someone in x wing - buy the base expansion once for the unique pilots (x wing) / unique titles (armada), and then any additional ones you want, buy the newer product because it's just better. I suppose I just don't like the conclusion that the refits are supposed to replace the ISD1/2 cards.
