Meta's Lookin' FINE!

By Scumwing Apologist, in X-Wing

Now that the last of the Store Champs and a couple of nationals are in the data pool, things are shaping up nicely! I really want to commend FFG on the excellent balancing work they pulled off this year. The March 6th 'Bringing Balance to the Force' FAQ really delivered on it's promises, and now we have a full, robust meta*. Just a little more work and we'll wipe Imps out of the top 20 entirely! I know you can do it, FFG, I BELIEVE IN YOU SENPAI!

Meta-Analyzer as of 8.28.17

*the meta is neither full, or robust. Any similarities between X-Wing(tm) and a balanced game are purely coincidental. My tiny footnote coworkers say that 40k 8th Ed. is pretty good, why not check that out?

What do you mean? There's a TIE Fighter in the top list on that chart! :P

Shh, it's all fine.

*sad trombone*

Sad.

I've decided to just go with it and fly Nym + Insert Broken Scum or Rebel Fortress - makes winning easier because I'm motivated (i.e. not depressed knowing my finger-scissors aren't going to get bludgeoned by a boulder).

And Emo Kylo Ren and RAC Palp will be there ready to stop you. To table Nym and restore balance to the meta.

RAC's zero agility and big base are going to absorb a lot:
x2 TLTs
x2 Homing Missiles
x2 Cluster Mines
x2 Siesmic Charges
Infinite Bomblets
x1 Cruise Missile

I came here expecting an album or painting titled "Lookin FINE!" by Meta, but was sorely disappointed.

Funny you should mention RAC Kylo! It's the top ranked Imp list!........... at 16th place .

Dunno, I'm seeing a lot of empire in the SC topic :-/ I think that Empire is finally rising, Empire players are discovering some nice building.

The imperial faction in a nutshell is Fel's Wrath. It may be ablaze and hurtling toward the nearest star with no hope for respite, but the guns still work so if you're low hanging fruit haphazardly crossing it's path you're in for a light bruising!

We'll know for certain this weekend... Another big tournament where you won't see more than two Imperial lists in the top 16.

I think all scum lists in the top 16 have at least 1 jumpmaster, too.

Yeah, Gencon only having the one Imp list at top 8 leads to some unfortunate conclusions. While SCs did have a good showing for Imp lists, that's also a more experimental level than say a regional or a national. Either there is still little confidence in Imperial lists (despite the SC season) or they are still not able to compete properly. Either way, it's bad.

There is still time for those conclusions to be proven wrong, but I'm not that hopeful.

its more the empire are just hardcore dedicated players than they have meta-defining lists. The majority of imperial players i see that actually win at all are insanely good at predicting movement distances, flight patterns, and taking calculated risks.
Imps cannot be netlisted right now. They just cant. Their ships are too fragile to fly with a thought of "I got the best list ever imma win unless dice say otherwise!" because even if the dice ARE going our way we can still lose through poor positioning.

Its funny. I'm literally the only regular imp player on our weekly gamenights, and at any local tourny theres maybe 3-4 others that show up from somewhere. Generally i get two responses when i show up with an imp list: 1) Yeah i love facing your imps its actually a challenge because you make me think hard! or 2) wtf are you playing THAT for? *points at Deathrain* lol.
I rarely win a tournament, but it even less rarely has to deal with the list im facing just countered me without even trying. Generally its a misplay on my part (bad prediction which lead to a bump, didnt guess his next move even remotely right, etc etc). Nym doesnt scare me...Dengar doesnt scare me....Dash doesnt scare me...none of them scare me but GOD do they make me work for that victory since even the slightest mistake costs me the game 9/10 of the time.

I play imps probably 80% of the time. If im not im probably doing some jank i came up with that i thought was hilarious (or running 4 Awings so i can run my 4 Arwings models)

All joking aside this sums up my feelings on Imps perfectly. Fly perfectly and get lucky dice and you can win. Make one mistake or blank a roll and you lose on the spot .

French nationals had like, half the cut imperial.

Too bad they couldn't finish the deal and a Nym list won out in the end, basically nullifying their attempt at a counter point.

I must admit, I missed the French National. Seeing two Imp lists make top 4 and one at the top table is encouraging, but I'm still waiting on more results from that level of play.

It still has the same problems that 40k as a system has- it's only really useful for narrative games, not tactics/strategy.

8th also has a problem with 1st turn alpha strikes.

It's still miles better than the **** infested ******* that was 7th though. As an Ork player, I had a lot of 'fun' putting my models down just to pick them all up by turn 2 when they all died to scatbikes.
