Sato's ability replaces attack dice for any color?

Hello, my question is if Commander Sato (his ability is to change two attack dice by any other two dice if there is a target squad 1) if he allows a CR90, for example, to fire long distance two black dice because it would replace two blue dice of its original roll by two blacks

Well, sort of. If it's long-range, then the CR90 wasn't firing blues. But it could replace two reds.

EDIT: Plus, now that there are black dice in your attack pool, you ould even use Concentrate Fire to add an additional black die.

The colour of the dice only matters for gathering the initial attack pool. After that, there are no restrictions.

Okay, I think I understood. Then the CR90 could shoot at close range with black dice even if it did not have them in its initial roll but could not pull long range with black dice because only these serve in close

No, the limiting factor is not the color of the dice you're swapping in , it's the number of dice you're swapping out .

What DA is saying is that if you don't already have a die at the range you're shooting at, you can't change their color because they're not there. As an example, consider a CR90 taking a shot out the side arc at long range. Normally, you would be throwing one red die at this range. With Sato, you could exchange that red die for a black. Because you don't already have the blue in your attack pool (because you're at long range), you can't also swap that out for a black for a total of two blacks.

As an extension of this, if you're taking that same long-range side-arc CR90 shot, but it's obstructed, now you don't have a shot at all because you only had one die in range in your battery armament, and it's removed, cancelling your shot.

As long as you can shoot SOMETHING, Sato replaces that something with the colors of your choice.

Also don't forget to have that squadron at distance 1 of your target.
