Need an advice for a large rebel ship.

By Corse66, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi everyone,

I need an advice from the veterans players that are roaming the board. I play different various FFG games with my family (top ones being Descent, X-Wing) and now we discovered Armada which is a fantastic game.

So we are hooked into the game, still we are casual players playing for fun but we like to keep things even approximately.

We have :

- Lots of squadrons (including rogues, and a couple of expansions squadrons)

- Imperial : Victory Class Destroyer (base box), Gladiator

- Rebel : Nebulon B & CR 90 from the base box + Assault frigate mark II.

While I know that points is everything to make things even we are considering to buy a large ship to each of our fleet to add more fun on the board and different playstyles.

For the Imperials we were about to buy an ISD ... before Wave VII. :)

So now I guess it's obvious it's going to be the Chimaera for well.. Thrawn is the only reason we need ^^ (and the cool design of the ship). So we will happily wait for this one to get out in 4th quarter.

Still we are puzzled about which one we should get for the rebels and why?

- Liberty expansion?

- Home one?

- new MC 75?

Thanks a lot for your advice!

Home one.

I can command squadrons and it slug it out. It can be outfitted in a very flexible manner. Ackbar allows you to yell its a trap many times in casual games. Good ship reliable and fun.

We (not that I really count myself in the ranks of he experienced, but 'we' as in Armada players) can't really recommend the MC75 yet, as we don't know what it comes with. Thus, we can really only speak based on our experience of the HMC80 (Home One), and the LMC80 (Liberty). Of those 2, I'd strongly suggest the HMC80, it being an overall more forgiving ship of mistakes, and an easier one to fly, being in possession of massive side arcs. And yeah, Ackbar's sweet too.

Second GoNIP: Home One, pending anything they reveal about the MC75. Raddus looks super fun, but I think Ackbar is a bit more turnkey to make work... and yeah, the MC80 is a pretty forgiving ship, albeit an absolute bear to drive.

Thanks for those nice replies ;)

Best commander skill ever :)

Raddus lets you yell "I have an idea" every time you ram something. So that should be a close second. ;)

I understand waiting for the Chimara expansion, but if you see an ISD expansion on sale anywhere, it is also worth it. Both sets have different ISD variants, and Vader is a beast of a commander.

I did not like the MC80 when I first got into the game. Now it is far and away my favorite ship. It's pretty nice and straight forward: hits hard, takes a lot of damage. It's simplicity is it's beauty. And you can deck it out to be an absolute monster.

Besides, if you get the MC80 now, you will have it for like 4 months before the MC75 even comes out.

Home One is a pretty tanky ship having 8 hull 4 shields on the front and sides with 3 in rear. It comes with projection experts so you can pass shields to another friendly ship. With the AFm2 you could congo line throwing dice out your sides.

I will say in defense of the liberty, it's so much fun. If someone in your house if a very agressive player the liberty is riot. Id likes to put it like this if ackbar home one is a sword ( slashing, always be slashing), then liberty is a hammer ( smashing always be smashing).

Tldr: home one forgiving and fun. Liberty unforgiving and a riot.

Plus liberty sinergize s well with what you got. Leading the spearhead of the nebulons and cr 90 s. Plays well with your afmk2 too!

The ISD-II while the most expensive of its sisters is still one of the most versatile large ships around, in a beginner fleet where you don't have to fear over-filling points as much, it's a power house. Not to mention the titles Devastator and Avenger which only come with the original ISD pack.

(ISD-II Avenger + an OP ISD-II and screed.... you'll be laughing manically and quoting Imperials all day.)

... With deployment advantage from the squadrons, I really have to question the wisdom of conga lining toward the near edge of the board in those photos. I mean, hindsight is 20-20 and all, but those guppies and their pet shrimp* really needed to avoid getting cornered.

*The Assault Frigate mk. 2 is affectionately nicknamed the guppy, whale, or potato depending on the person speaking, while pretty much everyone agrees the MC30 is a shrimp.

That battle looks so one-sided.

I like it :D

Just as the HOMC80 is known as a "pickle".

And you may run into people (mostly me :) ) refer to it as the 'sub', and the 30 as the 'dolphin'. . .

This fleet etched fear into most of my local meta off some very early matches.... whenever I'd bring it my opponents would stop thinking and panic. This is one of those "know your enemy" fleets that, functionally, has several weak points that can be exploited quite easily, but if you're successful with it, even once, it makes players second guess.

My entire meta loves MC30s, they know how to arc dodge and split ISDs, and they fly bombers often.... yet for some reason this particular PT fleet scares the poo out of 'em and they make mistakes like crazy.
