Based on the FAQ on how R2-D2 (crew) is handled, does the repair droid and construction droid only affect the section of ghe huge ship they are on? I couldn't find anything in the huge ship rules to clarify this.

It would seem that R2-D2 is the precedent, and based on that, the Construction Droid and Repair Droid would be confined to the section they are equipped to.

I'm inclined to agree.
WED-15 used to have it's own entry that said it could be used on either section, but it was removed over a year ago (I believe v4.1.1 was the last version was the last version that had it) leaving only R2-D2 as precedent. ![]()

I'll have to go back and check to see if I have that FAQ.
I wish FFG would identify changes like this.

"v4.1.1" is a link to it (I edited to make the link more apparent). ![]()
You can find many old versions by searching 'x-wing faq site:images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com' on Google.

Thanks for the info and link. I missed that the first time around.
I asked before about whether an entry from an old FAQ (concerning this exact thing) still applies officially but no-one was sure. I think it should and, since I haven't yet been to an epic tournament, that's how I play games.

The problem is when FFG added the R2-D2 entry and removed the old entry they set a precedent for how the repair droids work, whether they intended to or not. After Firespy pointed out the omission, I'm inclined to think they intended that the droids only work on the section where they are equipped.
A good answer. However it's almost as valid to say that, since we know how they intended them to work last year or so, without a direct contradiction the droids should continue working the same way. The problem with this approach is that only the current FAQ is actually part of the rules, leaving the decision up to the TO of each tournament.
I've said how I play this, and crew slots are tight enough already on huge ships that allowing the droids to work on either section doesn't make them too powerful whereas restricting them makes them not worth using at all.
There are multiple "sections" in the FAQ, the following two are of partticluar intrest here:
"Section 1: Errata
This section describes official changes to rule text and cards."
"Section 3: Card Clarifications
This section explains various card interactions and makes other clarifications."
The entry for both WED and R2-D2 (in version 4.1.1) are in section 3. So using FFGs own logic, neither card has had a change in how they work, they have just been clarified*. So if they where not changed by adding them to the FAQ, they can hardly be changed by removing them either?
So I would have to assume WED still functions the same as described in v4.1.1 even if that entry has later been removed.
*Now we all know the "clarifications" DO actually change the rules from time to time, but that's an other discussion

No, it just means that you might need 2 of them.
