Gauntlet fighters and the board action

By FourDogsInaHorseSuit, in Star Wars: Armada

So Thrawn is coming to the party. Yay, I guess, but! Joining him is a pair of squadrons, but then you Zoom And Enhance and you see the icons are rogue and...it's almost counter but it isn't . A big arrow with a small one to the side. Could it be "Board?"

Stay with me: in the old games ships about the size of shuttles would board with capital ships for capture operations. With the new trooper upgrades (including Vader himself!) is it possible that this is to those upgrades what relay is to squadrons? Meaning that you can expand your range to include a distance from the Gauntlet fighter?

No.

Rebels don't get a squad either so it seems weird Imps would get such a heavy handed wave.

The Rebels got Raddus, the most powerful thing since Demolisher.

Imps got new squadrons because they are basically getting a repack of the Imperial Star Destroyer. Rebels are getting an entirely new ship.

If Raddus didn't have his constraints, I'd agree. But I think Thrawn is a much stronger commander.

In regards to the squad and boarding cards, I don't think anyone wants BT Avenger working at medium range, which was more of what my comment was directed at. We obviously can't know Imps win this wave until we see the cards for Rebels.

Thrawn may be the most powerful. If it were not for Thrawn, Raddus would undeniably be the most overpowered card in the game, full stop.

I kind of agree that it could be about BOARDING. The symbol, which looks similar to ESCORT, is a small concave triangle, i.e. ship, that's moving towards a bigger triangle...

At first I thought it could be about hyperspace jumping into the battle next to this squadron... But certainly the symbol makes more sense as BOARDING. But why would it need to enable something else to board an enemy ship?

I think the Mandalorian Gauntlets are going to be the first Boarding Action squadrons in the game... Wasn't one used that way in the last REBELS episode anyway?

When they're in distance 1 of a ship, they might discard a defence token or something...

... perhaps disable the engines, i.e. speed minus 1 down to speed zero...

Going along with it being a boarding action, it could be a toned down version of the Vader boarding card where you exhaust one the enemy ships upgrade cards. That seems somewhat balanced to me, though it would be an expensive squadron.

I follow you on this one, a boarding relay!

Like Crabbok mention it in one of is video, there seem to be missing a part of the new fleet presentation image. Could be a graphic mistake? Or...

Maybe the U-Wing is what was hidding this way. If both side can have boarding relay, no problem with that.

revised_armada-wave3-title-image.jpgWell, there were plenty of strangely cut images in the past already. I remember all the wishfull thinking around Wave III...

I don't expect the U-Wings or anything else in this wave... And I'd still be fine...

Hoooooo, don't get me wrong here. That's a really nice wave.

But I really want a U-Wing too.

I like to balance my fleets on both side ;)

?... certainly, we'll get the U-Wings sooner or later... And since they have appeared in X-Wing and are soon to appear in Rebellion, the chances are really good they'll make it to Armada...

But what if those new squadron skill is not related to the boarding?

Gauntlet and named one guy have Rouge (for sure) and something. On named one we have a new gliph but on generic just white shape. As I worked for a while with people makeing such advertisement graphics (With Fire and Sword game) I know one thing, it could be anything. Those white shape on generic is lightly simmilar to the bomber but it is to wide so I suppose it is not.

I guess (looking on gliph on named squadron) that it will have ship escort rule. But this is only my guess ;)

On the squadrons, I'm wondering if they are supposed to be an anti -intel bubble. "Squadrons at distance 1 ignore the Heavy rule." This would effectively make them ship escorts and marginally decrease the power of some bomber builds.

That wishful thinking was exactly right. Wave IV was hastily spun off from Wave III, and was announced shortly after that image was published.

I don't think the Gauntlets will be a "boarding team relay". (I hope not as well).

For a start, I don't see why Imps would as a matter of course load their elite stormtroopers into some mercs dodgy ships. Surely they would be set up to do such things themselves.

I think the Mandalorians stand on their own as pretty awesome raiders and mercenaries. I reckon they will have their own ability.

Good point... For Imperial Boarding Squadrons, I'd also rather like to see the Assault Transports...372?cb=20070903234549

It could be a "docking" where the ship returns home to get HP back, or something like it.
It could also be a counter but for ships.
Or a Snipe for ships.

What I'm saying is I am confident the big chevron is a ship and the small one is this squadron.

Exactly, it seems like the Wave III announcement image and the Wave IV announcement image could have been lifted directly from the same base image. (Check out those angles and the positioning of the models.)

I believe Rebels will get the U Wing this wave.

I think two ways for this action to go. Either a limited version of boarding troopers, doing one token instead of dealing damage. Or an effect that lets you remove officer/weapons team/ support team upgrade. Maybe by doing damage to your fighter ( represent the crew boarding the ship)

Yeah if the imps were going to get a boarding squadron it would be sentinel landing craft.

I think its an ability that allows you to ignore Escort. Hence the similarity to the escort symbol.

Or they haven't release that info yet. They only showed the ship card model and admiral nithing else.

I think the "When you activate, you may spend a defense token on an enemy ship at range 1 instead of attacking" would be better. Making it so you can only do it when not engaged seems most balanced

If this assumption is right, this is craziness!!!
