Corran and GSPs

By j_man_04, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm not going for something that'll win me a tournament or anything, but I had this idea for some fun casual games. Is this a decent A-Wing build to pair with Corran, or should I take a different approach?

(99)

Green Squadron Pilot (25) - A-Wing
Deadeye (1), Cruise Missiles (3), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Guidance Chips (0), Snap Shot (2)

Deadeye (1), Cruise Missiles (3), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Guidance Chips (0), Snap Shot (2)

Corran Horn (49) - E-Wing
Push The Limit (3), R2-D2 (4), Advanced Sensors (3), Engine Upgrade (4)

I would switch up 1 of your GSP's. Set one up for short range with Prockets and put your opponent between a rock and a hard place on the approach.

If its for casual, you gave me an idea.

  • Corran Horn, Swarm Leader, Fire Control System
  • 4 X Prototype Pilot, Charaan Refit

If, IF, you can get everyone set up on the same target with evade tokens, Corran can potentially single handedly throw 12 dice at Range 1 in a turn at one target, or throw 5 or 6 each at two separate targets and have a target lock on the second shot with possibly a lock or focus token as well.

Makes sense. And since Prockets use focus, I can change out deadeye for crack shot. Getting in close early will also increase the likelihood of using Snap Shot

I'm considering Etahn Abaht as a swarm/squad leader because he turns one hit to a crit. With four ships firing on one target that might be fairly lethal.

I tried it against a Decimator and it worked, but against high-agility, high-PS it's fairly useless.

There's another beautiful Corran+GSP list:

Corran Horn (35)
Swarm Leader (3)
Fire-Control System (2)
R2-D2 (4)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Green Squadron Pilot (19)
Snap Shot (2)
Chardaan Refit (-2)
Juke (2)
Autothrusters (2)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Adjust to your taste, e.g. with a Torpedo or a cruise/harpoon/procket.
The idea is to take Evades with the GSPs, Those do a lot of work:

1. Use them to Juke the snap shot
2. Use them to Juke the normal attack
3. Use them to improve Corran's double tap!

Corran will shoot normally and then in the end phase double tap with 5-6 dice, at least modified with TL and possibly with Focus, too.
At worst you'll use the evades before, defensively, and double tap in a later turn.

Rebellions are built on hope.

I like the GSP Juke/Snap Shot combo. I've used it on a few occasions.

Ultimately I've found I can't get Snap Shot to trigger enough to rely on it.

That's why I'm looking to make use of missiles to do do a good one-shot early on.

Both strategies have their advantages, I suppose.

That used to be my favorite list back in the day. Etahn with 3 Zs and a B-wing. It struggled with phantoms and the like, but it munches much else. Tons of fun.

I can't find a definitive answer about whether Etahn can use his ability to modify snap shots from A-Wings though.

No it doesn't appear to work. Etahn's ability says "the attacker may change one of its hits to a crit". So the A-wing is modifying its own dice which snap shot disallows.

M9-G8 works because the source of the re-roll is not the A-wing, but that's unfortunately not how Etahn is worded :(

Yeah, there's some debate on this. It could be argued that the source of the modification here is Etahn, and not the A-Wing either. We might never know!

But there isn't really an argument to be made there. Ethan's ability is clearly worded as the attacker is modifying their own dice. He's the cause of the modification, but the attacker is still modifying their own dice, which they cannot do.

Actually there's no debate, since it has been confirmed in the last FAQ : M9-G8 works on snap shot.

I know, I was talking about Etahn Abaht.
