IA Season 3 Sign-Ups on Reddit!

By MegaSilver, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

You guys!!! Doooo it! It's a lot of fun! Throw together a silly list, a list you've never tried, or whatever you've been playing for months. The best part is getting to know others in the community. Even if you've never done Vassal before, it's super easy to pick up!

-ryanjamal

People are more than willing to teach you because it means a bigger player pool, and that is super nice!

it would be nice to wait for the new wave :)

Can someone please post more information on how this works? I don't mean how VASSAL works, as I see links/videos/tutorials on how to get that setup. More about the tournament itself - when the games are actually scheduled, how long it takes, etc. I couldn't find any additional information about it with the links provided. Its quite possible that I am an idiot, and just missed it - but the links I see just says to signup now. But I feel like I don't have enough information to know if I want to signup or not.

Also, is there a way to put in your experience level (or something equivalent)? It would probably not be optimal for either side for a player like me (never played organized play, new to VASSAL, etc) to be matched up with someone like.... DTDanix for instance. :)

Thanks!

I got my rear kicked all over the place in season 2 but it was great fun. Met some cool folks and learned a few things. Been playing pickup on Vassal since then. Can't wait to get season 3 started!

Scheduling the individual games is up to the two opponents to coordinate and complete within the given time period (1 week). I think first round matchups were random and then based on results after that. My first game ever on Vassal was against DT. I want to say that it was a highly competitive match but that would be an outright lie. It was however a lot of fun and he was super patient and taught me all the tricks to playing with Vassal. In the tournament my second round game was against Arviss and I would like to say that it was a highly competitive matchup but that would be an outright lie. It was however a lot of fun and... hopefully you get the picture. You should definitely sign up for season 3!

Lol, we've all been thrashed by DT :-). There isn't a way to select how you're paired, but it is like other tournaments where your pairing is based on your record, so as the tourney goes on you'll be matched more and more with people at your level (generally speaking). But even in the matches you lose you'll learn and hopefully have a great time. One of my favorite games during the last tourney was when @nickv2002 thrashed me.

Just jump right in!

Check out r/StarWarsTournaments on Reddit. It has the tournament standards for all the events i run.

You will play one game per week. Tournament rounds based on basic structure. Its mostly run like a regular tournament, so you'll be paired randomly round one.

Considering i dont know when it'll come out, and i dont know when the Vassal mod will update, the next season could start super late. I like to keep the events grouped together.

I only bumped Destiny a week later since we know the date it'll be out. IA is still on the boat.

I think it should be in hand in 2-3 weeks, depending on where you live.

Then we'd need the Vassal Mod (keep forgetting his name) to update quickly for the event. If it can be done before sign-ups end, I'll gladly extend them.

I believe that's @thereisnotry ?

HoTE will be in hand in 2-3 weeks? I thought it wasn't coming out for months still. It's still on the boat.

Well, I was estimating (perhaps too optimistically). It's been on the boat five weeks, and that generally takes 4-6 weeks, so I expect it to start shipping next week, so then it'll be in stores 7-10 days after that.

-ryanjamal

Well, it looks like my estimates were off :-). But it should still be fun! I plan on trying out a different list than usual. Still time to sign up!

Yep, that's me.

I will be releasing this wave in 2 steps. First, hopefully within a week or less, I'll have all the main stuff: all cards, figures, etc. Then perhaps a month later I'll be able to add the new maps that come with this wave. For both of these steps it's really just a matter of me waiting to receive high-quality card scans from another one of the players in our community. I've actually got all the mechanical bits already programmed into the mod.

Watch this thread on BoardGameGeek for updates: Star Wars: Imperial Assault Skirmish on Vassal

@thereisnotry It will be interesting to see how different our implementations of the power tokens are for the campaign and skirmish modules. :D
