Concerns about never finishing painting all my figures

My grey stone golem is already getting jealous of my shiny new lava golem.

And don't those flat cardboard terrain tokens look lame next to your meticulously painted army? Better add custom 3D terrain to the list.

Heck i technically already repainted one of my golems lol. I tried obsidian with a purple rune glow...didnt work so i repainted it (which had to repaint the whole thing due to all the purple cracks) to have a red center-chest gem instead. All i didnt repaint was the shoulderpads and swords, since i even changed the cloth color lol

You are never done painting. No model is finished, no army is complete, only abandoned.

Even if you somehow finished every model, eventually you'd get more. And even if you didnt you might get good enough to look at those old models and go "EWW i need to repaint those"

Did that with my early ties mostly, but I started RW at a pretty appreciable skill level so don't think that'll be a problem at least. Getting better all the time, certainly, but it's all small now. That and I paint several levels, spearmen are tabletop, no blending. Horses are tabletop plus, some blending. Heroes and uniques are quite involved. I shoot for display I guess, one day I'll get there.

My one piece of advice would be make that central gem look translucent to really sell it. You did well with the OSL, but the 'gem' doesn't look much of a light source. Some clever layers and gradient could help it a bunch.

Yeah i eventually gave up on that. Dunno why but thats one trick ive never been able to do very well. I can fake it on the small gems encrusted on swords or crowns/rings but a large one like that which is about the size of a thumbnail it just looks muddy to me.

Yeah, never said it would be easy, faking translucency is very tough.

You could paint it with a couple of coats of gloss varnish to at least fake the illusion. Double fake out!

Just keep working on it. Set a time when you paint. Like Thursdays after work I paint for 2 hours. You will find that you completed the army faster than you would think.

For me, I decided a long time ago I don’t take unpainted forces to tournaments. I’ve had this rule for 15 years and I haven’t violated it yet.

I really need to add /sarcasm tags to the original post or something.
