Concerns about never finishing painting all my figures

By Darthain, in Runewars Miniatures Game

I have legitimate concerns I will never get paint on every Runewars figure I have, and that more will continue to pile up until I am eventually buried under my armies.

In contrast to this, I have heard if you ever finish painting your last figure, you just die, so maybe this is a good thing.

Anyone else concerned about never being caught up on their painting?

I am going with an all solid grey color scheme for all of my units, so nope, I am never going to not be finished :D

All part of the hobby. It can take years to finish an army. It's normal and not a issue which should keep you awake at night.

My recomendation is spray paint your whole army with an undercoat then rapidly with a big brush base coat 30 models. Do the same the next day and voila the army is no longer not painted.

If it's any consolation I have at least 5 different armies at various stages of unpaintedness.

I have 2 cores of Daqan painted but not based, and haven't even primed the expansions I picked up. I started on my skellies this weekend and am having a great time. Just relax and enjoy the process. There's no need to rush it. That said, Thornoo's idea of a minimal paint job would at least get rid of the grey.

This thread is intended to be a joke to offset doomsaying.

I'm good, I've only got 10 horses, 3.25 golems and 40 spears + 2 elf boxes to go, it'll be alright eventually

I mean if I had a dollar for every model I don't have painted I could afford to play another 6 miniature games lol!

15 reanimates + 16 more still need basing, 2 lancers, 1 undead banner-bearer, 14 spearmen, 3 oathsworn, 12 derpwoods, 3 leonx, Alliana, and extra Ardus all need paint. At least there's a two month gap here, since nothing is on the boat.

Nice, first thing I do after glueing is spray a primer. Sprayed minis I consider painted.

But at the rate I buy minis I may never have em all fully painted

this is a good thing :)

Once you get the core armies done your probably only painting 6-10 trays per year if you believe FFG's expansion plans

Well in that case I might have to buy Legion just to have more things to paint!

I have set up the oft-broken rule of "I cannot buy more until I have finished painting what I've got." We'll see how long I hold up. I am a slow painter, but I also need to ease up on the purchases for a little while, and hopefully painting will keep me entertained while I save up some more money.

And to me, "finished", means that I've applied base coat, shade, and highlights. Just how many highlights....is probably up for debate. :P

I don't even have miniatures paints in my house yet! Of course, things won't be urgent until the Uthuk are in hand.

For Daqan, I did blue primer, blue wash on the armour, and two blue drybrush highlights. Grey primer only for the Golems.

For Waiqar, I did silver primer, black gloss wash, and a couple of silver drybrush highlights. Black primer only for the worms

So my stuff was unfinished, but has some paint on, which is better than unpainted.

Doing the whole lot like that is also more time efficient. Also based all of my trays too

Slowly making my way through it all.

I hear that Michelangelo said he'd never finish the Sistine Chapel.

My 4 new Partyworms, Oathsworn Cav, 8 Reanimates, 8 Reanimate Archers and a set of Infantry upgrades say I will live forever.

...and I just broke that rule for the first time yesterday... from the core elves: 2 trays of elven archers painted and based, 1 tray of leonx ready for matt and I bought another Golem expansion.

but I have painted 2 cores and all expansions from every thing else, so it can be done: https://www.amazon.com/photos/share/eWWXJJikbG8Pql8cAHruxcm1TQzcszosCImvcdgvoA5

I tend to try to get done before the next release, meaning I have a month to paint what I have, but want more cavalry for Daqan and those, for me, were HARD to paint.

ohh, you meant painted nicely...oh never mind then...;)

I'm really surprised how well I am coping with the mass of minis. Since March I've painted:

- 32 Reanimates
- 16 Reanimate Archers
- 4 Carrion Lancers
- 5 Waiqar command unit figures (1 converted from an unused Ardus)
- Ardus Ix'Erebus
- Ankaur Maro (mounted and on foot)
- 16 Spearmen
- 8 oathsworn cavalry figures
- 2 Rune Golems (working on the 3rd)
- 4 Daqan command unit figures
- Kari Wraithstalker
- Lord Hawthorne (mounted and on foot).

For a total of 93 figures. Never before have I stuck so continuously to a painting project. I've even managed to build and paint a little terrain, as well as sneaking in a couple figures for other projects.

I have only left
- 8 Reanimates
- 8 Reanimate Archers
- 16 Spearmen
- 4 Oathsworn

So it looks like I might actually finish these. And I'll hold off with the elves until I'm done painting these (he says, kidding himself).

I think 1-2 units per faction per year would be a fantastic pace.

Get an imperial assault blister pack or some army men and watch a Sorastro vid. Something to practice on will make you sooooo much more confident when you get to the minis you want to look good.

Spearmen get 1 highlight and generally a sloppy mop wash. The highlight is only on the purple too.

Horse men get pin washes and 1-2 highlights.

Heroes and siege have been getting 2 shades 2 highlights minimum. The golem I'm working on has 2 shades and 4 highlights on the rocks.

I've painted my whole Imperial Assault core set and am in the middle of painting Runewars (boardgame), but I have been using craft paint. I'm going to make the plunge into real paints for Runewars. I just haven't bought any yet.

Id make that plunge right now and not wait. Craft paint has much larger pigments and tend to cake over smaller details quite easily. Even when Inuse it for terrain, i thin them quite heavily

You are never done painting. No model is finished, no army is complete, only abandoned.

Even if you somehow finished every model, eventually you'd get more. And even if you didnt you might get good enough to look at those old models and go "EWW i need to repaint those"

I have several ork models i painted like 7-8 years ago that i started using again. They are DISGUSTING compared to the deffdreads i recently painted. I'm having to fight the urge to repaint them because i have so many unpainted anyway lol

My grey stone golem is already getting jealous of my shiny new lava golem.

And don't those flat cardboard terrain tokens look lame next to your meticulously painted army? Better add custom 3D terrain to the list.
