Which Ships to Buy?

By Schmarbs523, in X-Wing

Hi all,

I took a break from the game for a little while and am now looking at rejoining the fray. I'm pretty much up to date on ships up through wave 8 (I'm missing one ship pre-wave 8), but haven't bought a single ship since. So no wave 9, 10, or 11 or Heroes of the Resistance or the C-Roc. Are there ships in these waves that are must haves? I've been looking at picking up a Scurrg and a couple of Protectorate Starfighters. Any words for or against those? Or any other ships that would be better options/stronger in the current meta?

Thanks!

Schmarbs

You can skip on HotR and the CROC for sure. You also don't really need the Azituck, methinks. Different approach: what's your budget?

My budget isn't very high. I'll end up buying all the ships over time but for now let's say my budget is $75 or so.

Any faction you prefer flying?

I like them all pretty much equally, though overall I've probably flown Rebels the most. Before I stopped playing I had been playing a lot of Scum small ships (G1As, Z-95s, and Y-Wings specifically). I'm not a fan of flying mindless fat turrets.

Well if you were favoring Scum the Shadowcaster, Protectorate and Scurrg are all good ships. If you like bombs or a heavy fighter the Scurrg is great, it can equip a turret of you want. The Shadowcaster has a turret but you have to manually move which arc it is facing through a action or a modification. And the Protectorate is a delicate fighter at times but it can hit really hard.

Meta wise the Scurrg has seen a LOT of use with its bombs, turret, and other specs if you want to go down that road. So has Fenn Rau and the SF tie fighter.

Disagree on HotR. It has good pilots and upgrades; particular Pattern Analyser and Primed Thrusters.

For Empire, I suggest TIE Aggressor and Alpha-class Starwing. 2 great expansions full of useful cards.

EDIT: Imperial Veterans is good too.

What ships to buy? Hmmmm. If you want to win play scum. If you want to have fun play rebels and empire.

What ships to buy? Buy things that you think look like fun to fly. If you want to play with the Protectorate, get a few of them, look at the meta, and decide on a plan to keep your fighters alive through the bombs and blow the stuffing out of your enemies. See them driven before you and hear the lamentations of their women while you're at it.

In short, read the forums to get an idea of what the meta is, then buy what you like and use that tool kit to come up with ways to at least survive the meta while using your own strategy to kill the meta.

Just wait until the Gunboat releases and buy as many of them as you can.

Won't need anything else besides the core set.

All of them.

Er…I mean…

all of them

Hotr has jess pava and 2 great tech upgrades.

Scurrg gives you a ship for 2 factions.

Tie striker is great to fly. Tie/sf is a great alrounder.

Shadowcaster is what a turreted ship should have been and a good allrounder.

Protectorate is a meta staple and flies like a more aggressive tie interceptor.

I'm notoriously sanguine about upgrade cards; I proxy all I don't have originals of. I never buy ships for cards. Should have mentioned that.

Probably should have.

That's fine in a casual environment. But if you're playing in any formal setting, you need the cards.

You can always look for somebody who can lend you the cards.
