MC-75 speculation

By Tiberius the Killer, in Star Wars: Armada

So I'm really wondering what the role of these ships will be. And it will in great part depend upon the upgrade bar and speed. Here is what I am hoping:

Fleet command variant:

Speed 3 command 3 squad 3 engineering 4

upgrades: officer, fleet command, defensive retro, ordnance, ion, turbo

squadron command variant:

command 3 squad 4 engineering 4

officer, offensive retro, defensive retro, ordnance, ion, turbo.

Who knows what the other variant's dice will be like, but this assumes the both have black.

Or maybe there is an assault variant with a weapons team. That would be pretty sweet too! I would love me some flight controllers or gunnery teams. Basically I have no idea but I am very excited. ?

jyn erso was name dropped on the article as being one of the upgrades...

If one variant of it isn't a squad 4, weapons team, double offensive retro, a bunch of tables are going to get flipped in frustration.

I don't needn't double. Just one will be fine. A rebel alpha with 5 squads is just as crazy as a imperial on with 6 I think.

I would like the squadron command variant to have Squad Value 3, Weapons Team, Offensive Retro, at a minimum. Bonus if it has Engineering slot, I don't even care if it lacks Def. Retro, Ion, and Turbo.

The variant that they showed looks pretty solid. I think I would run it without the known title, it's hull zones are evened out and I like the different threats it projects from the front and sides. It looks way more useful than the Liberty which is a shame because I love the Liberty and want it so desperately to work. Hope some of the cards will make the MC80L a contender.

What I would really like next is a second type of flotilla. Maybe Lancers for Imps and something like the Corellian Gunships for Rebels, focused on anti-squadron duties. Two flak, with the ability to equip flechette...3 Hull, crappy shields. Lancers would be costed like the GR-75s and CG costed similar to the Gonzatis. Have a new cards that takes up the specialized flotilla slot - works something like an Adar that allows you to "unactivate" a squadron but one that was activated by your opponent.

Considering the variant we saw had five dice in every arc but the rear, even if it did come with the Quasar's upgrade suite it would be to expensive to occupy a similar role.

The MC80 Command is already occupying a lot of the potential design space for an MC75 carrier. Something like a fleet command slot (rip Pelta) rather than just offensive/weapons team slots would be more unique.

Unless there's a big dice difference between the variants, you are getting very close to "perfect ship that does everything" territory.

Weapons team is not happening because of Ackbar, they learned their lesson and heard out the loud crys. 5 dice on the sides with ackbar and GT is not happening. I just feel it, rebels are getting all their possible combos ripped apart.

It's only one blue dice stronger than the whale. I really hope at least one of them can take weapons teams. Or they could simply give Rebels an officer that allowed a weapons team on a ship (as long as it didn't have one already), but now I'm dreaming again.

Given the ship need to differentiate itself from both MC80s, my predictions are:

- It will have a weapon's team

- It will have an offensive retro and defensive retro

- No support team

- One variant with ordnance/turbo, the other with ordnance/ion

- Maybe the Fleet Support slot that flotilla get, or maybe a new support upgrade slot?

Yeah, I seriously hope it doesn't have a Support slot. If it does. . .ugh. Engine Techs + Profundity and a Torpedo Frigate with whatever upgrades you want. Speed 3 Engine Techs at the bottom of the turn to just outside of Close range to the enemy's most expensive ship. Top of next turn poop out the frigate, it double-side-arcs and flies away, then the battered enemy ship activates and moves into close range of the MC-75's black dice.

Profundity has a requirement of Command 1 ships only. So MC30 doesn't work.

Well that's a relief!

Although storing an External Racks Hamvette so it can't be destroyed en route will still be pretty nice.

There are so many potential ways to make this ship a useful tool. It will be exciting to see what we end up with. I mean the title and commander alone...

If it has a weapons team slot. Ackbar Boat for the win. Well if it has a Turbolaser and Ion slot even better.

I think the ship in the picture says its an "MC75 Mark II Cruiser"?

If it is then the Mark II is an Assault Frigate with an MC30 Torpedo strapped to the prow.

Its funny how Ackbar dictates so much what rebel ships can look like now.

But looking at the overall balance of the game at present, it would seem pretty churlish if the "II" variant at least didn't have all the obvious upgrade slots - ordnance, gunnery teams, ions and turbos. Otherwise it will still leave rebels pretty badly outgunned in the capship department when compared to these fancy new ISDs.

Double Ion Cannon upgrade slot is what I say :D :D :D

Just so we get the first ship with that combo ;)

Maybe somebody should make a pool of what the MC75 has+point value, so we can see who gets closest to the mark :P

Real question here is how many base points are going to cost. Is it going to be something like the VSD? Closer to the Liberty? Or too expensive and something like the ISD?

I would say at least 100pts for the cheap version. just look at its hull value, its 9

4 in the front, 3 on all other sides from what I could see for shields.

Looks like middle ground between the Liberty and the Home One.

Actually i think the cost will squeak in between the Assault Frigate and Liberty-Class. Say 82-83 points for the cheap option, with the more expensive option coming in at 90-92 points. Of course it's mere speculation on my part.

I have a hard time believing that a ship that's just slightly less durable than a Home One MC80 or Imperial Star Destroyer would be so cheap. I can see the cheapest version coming in at 90+ easily, and it depends on a lot of other factors.

Well we've got a while to wait til we see final costs. We may as well get comfortable lol

It has a lot of firepower from what I can see. Black and blue for Anti-Squadron is pretty good. 3 black and two blue out the front (same as MC30c) and 3 red two blue out left and right with a red and blue out the rear. Very curious to see what upgrade slots it will come with. Could we possibly get our first ship with a Ordinance, Ion, and Turbolaser slots?

I see it being speed 2, maybe a support slot, doubtful on the weapons team. Possibly 2 defensive slots, no offensive slot. Officer, Ion and single turbolaser

It's defense tokens will be interesting. Perhaps Brace, redirect and two anti-crit?

I wonder if they might just throw in a card compatible with the ailing MC80HO to help it out in some way. Home One is meant to be the Rebel Flagship yet rarely gets game time compared to Liberty version. Looks like other Star Destroyers will benefit from Thrawn pack, hence my conjucture.

A card simply classed as a refit with a points reduction ie chardaan refit for A Wings in XW, might make it more viable again but can be used on any Mon Cal large ship.

If they don't, with the MC75 release, I reckon MC80HO will hit the tables even less than they do now which would be a real shame.
