Store championships look done everywhere today.

By Velvetelvis, in X-Wing

My season turned out like a smelly gooch. Last chance was today but....life.

So regionals is in Fall right?

Figure October,November?

Our area has another one next weekend.

Yea my season was a big disappointment too. Only made it to 2 of the 4 in my area and went 2-2 at both. Made top 8 (8th) once but it was 14 players so I was technically in the bottom half...

Of course since Nathan Eide won all 4 of my SC's this year is it even worth going to SC's next year??

Been playing 4 years now and have yet to win a SC. Closest was a single top 4 appearance. I know I'm good enough to win one but I know because of the players in my area and the fact I don't fly meta lists I'll probably never win one even if I play another 10 years.

Only managed to make it to 2 of the nearly dozen or so in my area, thanks to work and all. Went 2-3 in the first and then 2-2 before dropping in the second. It was interesting as at both events most players decided to play a lot of non-meta things.

I made it to one of the 4 I wanted to go too (**** work). Had my *** handed to me on a silver acrylic tray. Had a great time.

Season for Regionals officially starts in November and runs until April.

Expect stores to be receiving their nominations and discussing their days with the appropriate channel (FFG in the US, Exclusive Distributors elsewhere) in September.

Last year, places were announced on the 18th of October.

My season was fun. Played a different list each time and made Top 8 twice and a Top 4.

Regionals I'm looking forward to since I only was able to go to 1 and went 17th missing the cut by like 10 MOV.

Yup, I feel I'm that guy too.

My first store championship ever I made it to final table with Etahn+swarm when phantoms were running rampant. My second later that season I made top 8.

I've been never better than 9th ever since. Store tournaments I can handle, but I just can't bring the lists or get the reps I need to have a legitimate chance in the competitive season. If I had a computer to access vassal or the willingness to take top tier lists, perhaps I'd improve.

...but then again probably not. In the end it's always easier to just cheer for the Blair Bunkes, Andrew Bunns, Chris Norisses, and Calen Wongs rampaging roughshod all through the I-5 corridor

A little dose of humility is always good for the soul!

What does a store have to do to get chosen as a site for a regional? Does a player have to win a store championship to play at a regional?

Regionals are open to all - you do not have to have won, but a win grants you a 1st Round Bye if you wish it.

(This extends to worlds as well - anyone can basically buy a ticket, but winners of the leadup events - Nationals / Continentals, have the option of a bye)...

The actual requirements for a Store to get a Regional isn't released by FFG... You essentially apply, and they apparently judged based on the size and quality of previous events, and in comparison to how many they intend to run in a given region... Its essentially a black box scenario, where only FFG (and their distributors, perhaps) know...

Just got home from our local store champ. Was all going well, hadn't lost a ship, until the third round and the guy I talked into going beat me, and then my wife beat me... Middle of the pack as usual after that! Not really anything I want to win anyway, but a Kallus token would be a nice to have.

We still have one tomorrow in my area.

My season went suprisingly well. Went to four SCs and managed to win two of those. The first was a ~30 person tournament and I won with Imperials. The second was much smaller, ~10 people and I won with some Rebel bombing junk. The other two I went to I finished 3-2. This was my second store champ season since I started playing the game and the first season where I actually won any so I'm pretty happy.

There was supposed to be one near me tomorrow at a comic convention but it seems like it was cancelled due to lack of interest. I did horribly at the only one I made it to (my first time at an event that was more formal than a monthly OP event, I think I took 26 out of 31 or something, and barely only won the two matches that I did win) and was looking forward to having a better showing. That store is listed as having an Armada store champ kit too, but I guess they won't be running either of them.

My first store championship season, so I didn't really know what to expect. Went to 4, finished 1st, 5th, 6th, and 12th.

When do sites and dates for regionals usually get announced?

it was my first store champ season. I did not do as well as I hoped but did ok. went to 3. finished 11th, 2nd and 4th. Hope i can break a top 8 in a regional.

Went to one, won one. Didn't feel like I needed to play at any others after that.

Nearest store is 3-4 hours away, and I have other responsibilities on the weekend that prevent road trips on their X-wing night. Maybe next season things will be different...

Anyway, I love X-wing night on my kitchen table; if we want to do variations from the 100/6 standard, we can, and Epic is a regular option. I can't complain. Store Championships could be a fun change of pace and a different side to the game to play with when opportunity permits, though.

Man I'm insanely jealous at all you guys winning SC's, especially when it's your first year attending them. I kind of wonder if most users on the forum have won at least one during their x-wing career...would put me in the minority then.

I'm 0-6 in my career over 4 SC seasons now (though one season I didn't attend any). Only plus is I've never had a losing record yet. I have won two store kits though, and done respectably in many vassal tournaments, including moving on to the Inner Rim in vassal league for the upcoming season.

So half serious/half joking, should I start going to other SC's next year that don't have Nathan Eide and Zack Matthews attending them?

Maybe I can redeem myself at regionals this fall. Went to my first one last fall after missing it for 3 straight years. Went 3-3 so again not as good as I hoped for and expected of myself. Making top 16 might make up for the past few years of competitive x-wing for me.

Makes me feel bad that I have attended 1 and won 1. I'm sure it's atleast 50 percent luck though, good match ups and some good dice at the right time.

Can anyone explain to me why the regionals are after nationals? Hoping to attend my first regional :-)

It turns out that there was only on locally this year compared to the 4+ last year. I went to it with a quirky Kath/Ketsu list expecting a middling day and more time to watch my son play and ended up undefeated after Swiss. We split the loot among the top 4 cause it was already 5pm on a Sunday. I've got the plaque (my first) but no Kallus token and I traded the range rulers out, thinking that I could make top 4 at another easily.

I hope we get a regional again this year, but I doubt it.

The last two years I won 2 SC's each year... then I had a kid in February. Out of a dozen or so nearby store champs I went to 3: Top 4 in two of them (20+) and 5th in the 16 person one without a cut. I flew imperials at each. Ah well, I did however win a store champ for Imperial Assault (8 people). I guess a plaque is a plaque, eh?

Out of five in the state, I managed to make it to three. I wanted to make it to the fourth, but it conflicted with a local Runewars tourney, and the fifth wasn't widely announced (and quite a ways away)

Out of the three tournies, I was lucky/unlucky enough to get second all three times. So I have an abundance of Agent Kallus tokens but no trophy.

My season was great! Second place and 2 top 4 finishes out of the six I was able to attend. I grew as a Rebel player, transitioning out of Norra/Braylen/Biggs to Dash and Poe, then to Dash and Nym for this last one. I had the advantage and supreme pleasure of learning from my local aces and becoming the apprentice of a certain Sith Lord. I'm going to be learning how to Miranda next and I'm very excited for regionals, since I haven't been to one yet.

I feel like the season was a bust for me. I really don't like this new timing of the seasons. Last year I think I went to 6 or 7 different ones within about an hour drive, because what the heck else am I going to do on a Sat/Sun during February? This year I went to two plus the one I TO'd for my local store. Two of them I finished 5th place (4-1 with a *** MOV of a ~29player tourney, and 3-2 with a quality MOV of a ~23 player, and the other one I won (27 player tourney), so statistically I did better (last year was the only year I didn't win one), but I didn't have as much fun playing.

No offense, but going to one that doesn't have Nathan isn't going to change the fact that you've made top 4 only once. If you were consistently losing to him in the finals game, then perhaps. Nathan is a great player, but it sounds like he's not the only roadblock you have to not winning.

This was probably my last Store Championship season. Played in five this year, with a different list every time, went 1st, 2nd (drop after Swiss), 3rd (by MoV), Top 4 (dunno MoV), and *mumble*mumble*. Not a terrible way to go out, with at least one Store Championship in every year I've played.
