Assembly and gluing

By Guest, in Star Wars: Legion

Hi all,

Except for Xwing and Armada, I'm very new to the miniatures game world and have no experience painting or assembling miniatures.

My question is is it confirmed that we will need to assemble the miniatures (other than snapping on the base)? Will it be just snap on type assembling or will glue be required?

Thank you

From what we saw with Runewars, we might expect very well fitting plastics that glue together.

Yeah this won't be GW level of assembly, but rather a couple pieces that are slotted so you can only put them where they're supposed to go. Based on what we know so far, some sort of super glue should be all you need.

If you want to get more advanced some sort of epoxy may be handy to fill gaps, but I'm not sure how much of that would even be required.

Super glue will do the job, but on poly the join can be brittle. Better option is Liquid Poly cement, especially if you can find Testors. Maybe go with a two part epoxy for vehicles.

If any past FFG minis games requiring assembly is an indicator, you'll need some. IA's Rancor is the worst offender I've seen. Though this is a different material, so maybe not.

Based on the Sorastro video, the figures will definitely need glue. They don't just snap together like the larger IA figures.

Hopefully the testors blue tube works well on these, I use that for all my 40k models. I find superglue on plastic can create a cloudy or weird effect and cause issues.

Runewars was very easy to assemble and glue (I use gorilla glue). There are no sprues to cut and were almost no mould lines that needed cutting/sanding. I did need to straighten out spears but dipping them in hot water worked wonders for that.

I've never used the blue tube, but I'm pretty sure this isn't the same kind of plastic that 40k stuff is made from.

I've mentioned it in another thread but I'll do it here too. Loctitie Gel glue is my absolute favorite. I use it on all of my plastics (RuneWars included). The time and control factor are why I swear by the stuff.

You only say that because it's the finest bottle of gel-consistency CA glue on the market.

Just use plastic glue.

Plastic glue does not work on Runewars miniatures (the bond is VERY weak). Plastic glue works by chemically melting the plastic material, but the kind of polymer the Runewars miniatures are made of is not affected by it. So if Legion miniatures are made of the same material, superglue is the only way to go.

Used plastic glue on my RW minis, specifically Plastruct Platic Weld. Worked fine. RW painting guides advise material "will not respond to certain thpes of 'plastic glue.'"

Ok, good to know. I used the Citadel plastic glue and it did not work out (probably a conspiracy from GW against FFG, hehe).

or vice versa!

Army Painter plastic glue doesn't bond well either, especially to the bases. Had to use super glue but get fume burns with Gorilla.
