How could FFG further expand X-Wing? [Future Expansions, Core Sets]

By Vector, in X-Wing

I'd say back off of the Mouse's new trilogy (they really didnt add anything that amazing) , and go do more "Legends" "Orginal EU" material, like bring the T-65 back into the lime light, bring in Rogue Squadron as Rogue Squadron, (give them synergy between the pilots), Bring in some more E1-3 ships and add a Loose RPG Style campaign template to allow us to make our own missions with special rules, and the earlier ships would allow us to start in the Clone War and expand to the OT.

Ships I would love to see expanded into X-Wing is a new T-65 Model (More detailed), N1 Starfighter, the Royal Naboo Starship (Episode 1 Queens Escape Ship), Naboo Bomber (As Seen in Galactic Battleground Saga), Vulture Droids (With Different AI instead of Pilots), Hyena Bombers, HMP Droid Gunship, V-Wing (E3 Version), Generic Arc-170 Pilot Cards, Republic LAATs (Execpt use the Space Worthy Ones), Jabba's Star Jewel (This is a beyond need at this point, we have Kyle and his HWK, we need the Ship that managed to catch the HWK, The Star Jewel, and its Jabba's REAL Personal Space Transport). As kinda generic as it looks, the M-Wing Fighter of the Rebellion appearance grew on me, and it would make a good custom ship for players to use if they wanted in the campaign, Incom Upgrade Cards for the A-Wing that allows them to flip their Arc to the Rear....

And this next ships might not fly for everyone, but the Nightcaller (Modified CR-90 with a Hanger Bay) for the Empire, AND the Far Star For the Rebellion (Again, Modified CR-90 with Hanger Bay)

Other ships can include the Alderranny War Frigate (Should be Small enough to be considered Epic) and I would love a Epic Scaled Victory II Frigate (From Battlefront II :NOT EA VERSION: )

Rogue One Core Set

As much as I want the Blue Squadron ("fixed") X-Wings, buying another core set for that would not be fun... unless it came with a TIE Striker (with a modification for "Heavy" configuration, adding bombs and maybe cannon and/or crew) instead of yet another 2 TIE Fighters.

So the "ace" Y-Wing would come with the epic Hammerhead. Yep, that could work.

I was in the "no prequels stuff ever" camp for a while. I really liked the ARC, but didn't want that door to be opened.

Then FFG released the ARC, and it is glorious. I know a lot of this is subjective, but that ship is the best model and paint job currently in X-Wing. The Scurrge is really good too, which leaves me totally open to more prequel ships. I'm not sold on the idea of a new core/expansion/game mode centered on the clone wars, but I'm totally down to see stuff like the Jedi interceptors or a few other ships from the era.

Oh boy....we have an Original Trilogy purist here.

We have many, actually.

And to everyone who is against the N-1, you don't have to buy it if it gets released, it won't destroy the game, and how can it not make sense? For every high tech space superiority fighter like the E-Wing or TIE Defender, there's a box van (YT freighters, VCX), a tractor trailer (C-ROC, GR-75) and a freaking courier's moped (HWK). We have overengineered marvels of tech like the B-Wing and old fighters literally pulled from the dump and retooled like the ARC.

What in the world makes the Star Wars equivalent of a restored 30-40 year old hot rod so "un-Star Wars"? I get it, young Anakin SUCKS. Episode 1 was awful. There remain good things from it (Maul, Qui-Gon) and maybe the N-1 can be salvaged.

And I get it. The design is silly and the astromech can't really fit in it normally without some weird decapitation happening. Is that really where you draw the line? Star Wars is nothing if not replete with truly bizarre designs.

The N-1 will come soon, I believe.

There are 3 unreleased ships: Resistance A-Wing, Resistance Bomber and Resistance Transport (please God, no!) - all of them for the Resistance, leaving the Rebel Alliance without new ships.

N-1 can fit very well in this game as a cheap pocket ace (like Omega Leader). Heck, it most likely will get that Bullseye mechanic for the Rebels.

EDIT: And yes, it looks silly, and very different from the OT designs, but that's the same for half of the Scum ships.

There are still quite a few prequel era ships that we were still seen to be used from the birth of Galactic Empire and right up to the Galactic Civil War which were used either by Rebels, Imperials or scoundrel and mercenary groups.

There might be a couple more which I am missing but these are the prequel ships that still existed during the early Empire and GCW. Unfortunately, most other Prequel era ships at this point have not so they might only be included into the game if there were some sort of Clone Wars era core set or maybe even a Light side / Dark side alignment expansion.

Another idea which could allow the game to incorporate both Prequel Era and Old Republic Era ships is to introduce a sort of Antiquities sub faction. Any ship from the birth of the Republic to the birth of the Galactic Empire could fall under the Antiquities category. How they could work is that they can be chosen for either Rebels or Scum, or maybe even Empire. Because a lot of rebel factions were known to salvage old ships for use in their own fleet, it could make sense for any of these old ships to be chosen to be incorporated into a player's fleet.

Personally, I support the idea of adding the N-1, and it's likely we would get the classic color scheme, but for those who argue a different color scheme would be more platable, I whipped this together for you

sorry it's a touch rough I'm out of practice. I can theoretically do other color combos if you ask(also have the engines on a separate layer than main body). Not sure why I went blue gray. I meant to add some patching/scorch marks, but not overly my skill area

I do think the N-1 is elegant, and I wouldn't object to it with one tiiiiiny change to the original model; give the astromech slot some 'shoulders' for the legs to fit inside (feel free to smooth them off rather than make them blocky) rather than claiming that astromechs have the unbelievably stupid "pogo-giraffe-neck". Do that, and it looks both (a) nice and (b) workable.

A campaign box or a mission box for example

Something akin to the correllian conflict would be awesome.

I like this. Or more specifically something akin to this. Let's make a 4th "faction" which essentially isn't a faction. All ships from this faction can be used by multiple factions on a ship-by-ship basis. Maybe instead of 1 large faction symbol it has 2 or 3 smaller ones.

Id really like to see campaign boxes that follow the themes of the movie eras. this would be a great connection to the movies and would breath some vitality into the game which has become pretty dry n mechanical I think. I love the game don't get me wrong, but I think part of the appeal, especially to new players, is being able to fly the ships we see in the movies.
